Dammit, I keep getting a crash to bluescreen.  Something wrong with my PC, I'm not sure what.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Has anyone been to Bolivia? I'm going to be in Lima for work in a couple months, and am thinking of heading over for the weekend, plus a couple days. I'm worried it isn't safe (the travel warnings seem stronger, and I'm getting more advice than normal about not going). If I went I'd fly into La Paz, and head down to Potasi. My preference would be to rent a car. I don't speak Spanish and would be by myself, but have travel quite a bit in South America.

let me summarize this for you, maybe you get a better view then:

-there are several warning to not travel to that country at all
-you do not speak the local language
-you want to drive a car
-you would be alone
-you would be a white tourist alone in a car

He didn't mention if he spoke Quechua or Aymara or not.

It's the Chicago Way.

The funny thing is that Obama is the very type of person that CdM hates in so many ways.  It's funny that the only way that the Republicans could have made Obama look more like a guy fighting against the big bad forces of Big Business is if they had nominated a Koch.

You're a fucking knucklehead.  You bitch about other best selling authors, too?
Only if people think they're the messiah.  So pretty much Obama and Jesus.  Maybe you can post info on JC's capital gains taxes too?
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

The compound interest on those could ruin the city of Berlin.

I actually know two women that independently traveled there alone without speaking spanish, one for a few days and one for a few weeks. One is white, one asian, and they were fine. But what you are saying seems to be the overwhelming response on this. I'll probably end up listening--I think it would be okay but someday I'll be wrong.

Driving a car alone may be the safest way to go. La Paz to Potasi is along one of the biggest roads they have, and the alternatives are a guide ( :yucky:) or a bus.

Fucking Evo Morales.

Do you look and or act "rich"? :P. seriously though some areas in south America (hell maybe all  ) are no go for rich foreigners on their own. Bad shit happens. There's a reason even well off locals live in secured (as in armed guard ) communities.

I've been down there several times on my own. I try to keep a lower profile, but I always have in the back of my head that no matter how modest you may think you look, you obviously are visiting the country from very far away, and the airfare alone could be half a years income to some people.

Random WTF of the day: saw a hipster at the pub wearing a Brigate Rosse t-shirt - misspelt and with the RAF logo.

:bleeding:

On the other hand I saw a hipster today wearing this:

Just love that old design (much better than the modern gangsta rappa/wiffer look).

Hod, no. Saw a chick in 80s style boxer shorts on the tram yesterday - thank god, those went out of fashion.
