No idea what good the Chinese Army is in a fight,

It would be interesting to find out.  Probably right nasty bastards.
Back in my bail days, my old boss was a corpsman in Korea, said he still had nightmares whenever he heard a bugle.  That's when you knew they were coming, and they weren't stopping for shit.

Fuck 'em, though.  Fucking godless heathen rat bastard commies.

It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

What does he suffer from, a gunshot wound to the back of the head?

A masterpiece of lobbyism:
All energy-using devices in the EU come with an energy efficiency scale from A to G. This was also introduced for cars recently. The German car industry, with its heavy sedans and SUVs, lobbied to have the weight of the car included in that measure. So a heavy gas-guzzling SUV may have a good energy efficiency if it burns little fuel for its heavy weight. The consequence of that rule is that the Leopard II battle tank has the same EU energy efficiency class as a Volkswagen Golf.

that advert line would look stupid from the other end:

"buy a VW Golf! It has the same energy efficiency as a Leopard II Main Battle Tank!"

Neil

Isn't that what efficiency means?
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

It certainly has better side impact crash ratings than the Golf.

What are you doing at Madonna concerts if you don't want to see her boobs?

Makes perfect sense to me, as long as the equivalency formula is solid.  You already know whether you have a hatchback, SUV, or a main battle tank.  What's the point of an efficiency rating that would pretty much be perfectly correlated with your class of vehicle?  What additional information would that efficiency rating impart?

Couple of bands coming to Vienna this fall/winter: Laibach, Ultravox, Tiger Lillies, Cranberries, Levellers. I definitely want to see Laibach and Ultravox - I'm betting Ultravox will play "Vienna". :P
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

I can see how a certain percentage would be considered "undervalued";  where the hell else can you score a foreclosed-upon condo on the water in Miami Beach for $50,000?  Talk about undervalued.

I had this thought too. I looked at some of the high rise condos they are almost giving away. You know a problem they have? The HOA dues would be way more than the mortgage. Everyone in the complex is way upside down, which means for the foreseeable future most of the units are going to end up in foreclosure (maybe some in a short sale). People are going to be walking away, not paying the HOA dues, a lower income class will be moving in that will have trouble paying the dues, and some of these complexes are going to end up in a death spiral.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

Passenger mile per unit of fuel.  Presumably the whole point is to steer people towards more eco-friendly cars.

Whereas this modified system tells people they're driving a super-efficient Hummer.

Sadly there is this thing called the Internet and video cameras so people end up posting it online at sites that I must stop frequenting now. :P
