Funny as balls at the :40 mark.

I could only imagine this happening to my Mom reeling in her little bluegills and sunfish.
Great find
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

After the Meiji Restoration, the new imperial government needed to rapidly modernize the polity and economy of Japan, and the Meiji oligarchy felt that those goals could only be accomplished through a strong sense of national unity and cultural identity, with State Shintōism as an essential counterweight to the imported Buddhism of the past, the Christianity and other western philosophies of the present..

In 1890, the Imperial Rescript on Education was issued, and students were required to ritually recite its oath to "offer yourselves courageously to the State" as well as protect the Imperial family.
Find  an 85-90 year old person who still has their faculties and they will still be able to recite that oath verbatim.

"I pledge allegiance, to the flag,....."

It is one thing to pledge allegiance to the symbols of a democratic nation, and quite another to pledge allegiance to a king who is also a god, destined to rule over all of humanity.  :D

-one might argue that forcing kids to pledge to whatever is indoctrination, altough I won't argue with you
-Tim shouldn't be fascinated by old people remembering what they had to pledge daily when they were kids

Yeah, I found Pledge of Allegiance in American schools to be nauseating.  I always half-assedly mouthed nothing in particular during it, because the whole ritual was just degrading.  I saved the pledging part for when I took oath as a newly naturalized citizen.

Ed Anger

We used to make fun of kids who were opted out of the pledge by their parents. GODLESS COMMIES.

Meh, it gets kids up and moving in the morning.

Most annoying aspect of it was having to stand up with the inevitable teenage hard-on in homeroom.

Ed Anger

I hated the rotating selecting of kids to do it over the loudspeaker. Walk to the office? AW MAN.

The hilarious bit is that you can note a difference.

That's some quality screetching from the chick whose fish got nabbed.  Not that I blame her for being startled.

Considering how Joe is getting the Sunday Service treatment complete with Amens and Mmmm-Hmmmms, and Mittens got boos and crickets, the differences are pretty easy to spot.

And stop hating your race.

You Goddamn communist.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

I'm embarrassed that my race would get excited for white dude over the other.
