My brother is going down to New Orleans, so I have to look after his dogs.  He plans to sleep on the beach each night.  This doesn't strike me a sound plan.  To me that sounds like a good way to get robbed, beaten up, arrested, or rained on.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

For bonus points, new Orleans doesn't have beaches, it has riverbanks that are rocky, swampy, or both.  But there are a lot of "gutter rats" begging in the French quarter in their doc martins and sleeping on the streets or in abandoned buildings, so maybe your brother will be ok.  It's actually better to bring a dog in that case though; the cops hate the paperwork of dealing with animal control, and so will not bother arresting gutter rats with dogs for loitering as a result.  Also, your brother is an idiot.

It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Fake!

How can you be sure?  :hmm:

Well, for starters...

Peter Jackson didn't write LOTR until the mid to late 90s, and that picture looks to be from Nixon's presidency.

Jackson didn't create Middle Earth, he discovered old manuscripts and maps and stuff.

I don't understand: is he showing his nation's borders, or planning an attack against an enemy? I'm pretty weak at history...

Arguing with french anime critics is tiring. I am now glad i've never had occasion to disagree with grumbler: In that rarest of environments, an anime discussion in which the highest academic language and justification for any point is demanded, I feel the otherwise-dormant despair for over-articulation and the frenchness of the french, who I otherwise regard as confederates of the heart entitled to seats on the worldship.

For all of the castles this communist is painting in the sky, you'd think we weren't talking about a cartoon featuring giant cats that bow and tip their hat to pink-haired girls.

It would be much easier to have patience had he not seen the same thing as I, but this treacherous continental, having drank from the grail, now has the temerity to insist it is nothing but mean and common chalice.

I bet he voted Melenchon.
