I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Nope, this is the character.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scutigera_coleoptrata

Oh, those?  Me and Korea used to get those all the time in our second apartment.  Scary fuckers.  Fast.  Walked on the ceiling like Lionel Richie.  If I'd taken one step forward once, one would've fallen off the ceiling right on my head.  Kept me awake many nights, staring at them above my bed. : /

The good part is they eat other bugs and are only mildly poisonous, if they can even penetrate the skin.  They're not that bad, compared to, I dunno, wasps or what have you.

But you realize there are probably hundreds if not thousands of them, right?

Never seen one before.  I've lived in this house for 15 years.  If there were thousands of them I think I would have seen one before now.

My Scottish colleague just used the word "unbeknownst" in casual conversation. Haven't heard that one outside pulp stories/superhero comics in years.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

I had a friend drop "diabolical" on me today.
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

As soon as I pulled out of the driveway yesterday to take the kids to school/day care I noticed there was a turtle in the middle of my street, just sitting there like he was waiting for something.  We had gotten an early start, so I pulled over & picked up the turtle to show Tommy.  Then I let him go in the neighbors yard & pointed him in the direction of the woods.  Wish I had kept him as a pet.

Anywho, I told the wife later on & she said (in her cute little accent), "Maybe eet eescaped from someone's house."

After some back & forth as to how that would actually happen, it dawned on me that she didn't seem to think that turtles live anywhere outside of captivity.  Now this is the same woman who heard some rustling in the wooded area behind our house & immediately surmised that it must have been "a small hog"
