In fairness I don't mind the next couple of months. I get very excited for Halloween, I like Guy Fawkes and I've already started buying Christmas candles and new decorations

But January to March is a drag and the dark evenings are always a bit grim.

January is, by far, my least-favorite month.  Cold and dark, winter really setting in, and a holiday hangover.  February is only slightly better.

January was my favourite time of year - a nice time to rest in between the high pressure December tournaments and getting ready for the equally high pressure final league games and regional playoffs.  A calm in the eye of the storm.

I still think of it as a time to get some rest, and I get annoyed when someone schedules something in the first two weeks.

I think you misheard the broadcaster.  She was the first Irish woman to finish the marathon this year, and they said she was last year as well.  In fact, an Irish woman has won the marathon 14 times in its history.
