Our King is dying. :( After several operations for blot clots, lung cancer and a dementia diagnosis what took him out was a vacation to Egypt.

Is he king? I thought he was just prince.

King in all but name. Technically a prince-consort I think.

King in all but name, really? He doesn't reign, wifey does.

None of them reign, but at least he lives a traditional royal lifestyle :P

They reign, they just don't rule.

In all my life I've never heard about a current King of Denmark, and I've often heard that the reigning Queen is Margrethe II.

Which is also correct. But for the last 20 years or so Henrik has publicly campaigned to become a King. It's a political decision and he says he deserves it and I agree.

Yeah same for me. I think this is the first I've ever heard of it out here in the diaspora.

Uppity princes are a pain. I wonder how the elder Brutus would deal with this?

The argument goes, through marriage a princess can become a queen so so should a prince be able to become a king. In these modern times a Queen should be able to rule/reign over a King.

You could just always call the reigning monarch King, regardless of sex. A nurse isn't called a doctor, even if he's male.

In these modern times it at least doesn't produce clinically retarded heads of state.
