Somebody rang my door bell, but I didn't open as I didn't expect anybody and the few times it happens, it's usually someone trying to sell me something. This time they left a pamphlet of the Green Party for Germany's upcoming federal election. I can't remember ever having had someone coming to my door for a political campaign before.

We have both first-past-the-post and proportional voting. The first-past-the-post guy from the Conservatives seems to be safe in his seat (last time 42% vs. 27.5% for the Green challenger). But the proportional vote is what really matters as that will determine how big the factions in parliament will be.

I thought the book interesting, but very redundant and poorly written.

If you like that stuff, try Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari.  I didn't agree with all of his conclusions (or maybe even most of them), but he asks all the right questions, so it should really stimulate your thoughts.
