Ok, this is seriously messed up.

In 2001 a 9 year old girl disappeared in Germany. The case made countrywide news, and despite huge search efforts her body was only found last summer.

Meanwhile, a few years ago a right wing terror cell, the Nationalsozialistischer Untergrund was uncovered. According to Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Socialist_Underground

The National Socialist Underground or NSU (German: Nationalsozialistischer Untergrund) was a far-right German terrorist group which was uncovered in November 2011.[1] So far, the following crimes have been attributed to the NSU: the Bosphorus serial murders, a series of murders of nine immigrants (eight Turks and one Greek) between 9 September 2000 and 6 April 2006; the murder of a policewoman and attempted murder of her colleague; the 2001 and 2004 Cologne bombings; and a series of 14 bank robberies.[2][3][4] The Attorney General of Germany called the NSU a "right-wing extremist group", who have the purpose to "kill out of xenophobic and anti-state sentiments all citizens of foreign origin".

The law enforcement agencies didn't look good because for very long they didn't connect the dots between the NSU's actions and looked everywhere except on the right wing.

What these have to do with one another?

Today the news: DNA of one of the male members (now dead) was found on the disappeared girl's corpse; police had been wondering why there were children's toys in one of the hide outs (the two male and one female known members have no children).

I think they were something like SSN1 / SSN2 or whatever the NATO designations were for those early Soviet anti-ship missiles, one report said the 2nd one fired travelled for two dozen miles.

By the sound of it these things were fired out to sea or very generally in the direction of the two US ships, but I don't think they were effective targeted by those who set them off. Sounded more like they were fired off like you'd send off fireworks.
