I just saw a guy who I assume was an American tourist.  Middle aged, fat, with a hefty moustache.
He was wearing a t shirt with a picture of a cartoon witch on it and the text "Salem - massachusesttes - a wicked good time".
Where he is from I guess.
Though it made me think.
The witch trials were a pretty nasty part of history. Ignorant proto yanks decided to murder a few women because they wanted to wipe out witchcraft in the world. They couldn't abide it in their town.
....
Yet because of their action their town is forever famous for witchcraft.
Quite a delicious irony really.

Not so ironic.

Actual news story:  Obama's Summer Playlist

While I've complained many times in the election thread about the how silly and trivial the news concerning the presidential race has been; it's helpful to remember that their coverage of the current president is every bit as silly and trivial.

Edit:  Not only his summer play list they also have a story on His Summer Reading List:

I had no idea there was an illustrated edition of The Art of the Deal.

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

That picture made me realize: I don't think I've ever seen a black person with really snaggly teeth.  :hmm:

Summer reading list is normally pretty common over here you normally get a story on most of the party leaders' ones. Though sometimes you'll also get politicians - like Ed Miliband who sort of sets a suggested reading list of interesting current political/social science/economics/history books for his MPs.

For those of you who simply cannot get enough light and fluffy news CNN expanded the story I posted above to include Biden's Summer Playlist.  Wow, what a phenomenal story.

That a place where something horrible occurred when trying to stomp something out because of ignorance became famous for that / makes money because of the thing people had wanted to stomp out? I'd call that typical.

Pop a Prilosec, and if that doesn't work jab a syringe filled with lithium into your heart.

Venezuela has a cabinet level minister for Ecosocialism.
The purpose of studying economics is not to acquire a set of ready-made answers to economic questions, but to learn how to avoid being deceived by economists.

This minister has overachieved a bit at achieving a zero growth economy.
