Maybe Madrid should start being the bigger person in this child on child fight.

What does that even mean?

Free the leaders!

They are not innocent though. I don't think there was direct violence involved like the prosecution claims but they did attempt a coup d'état.

Not that the government could free them if they wished to (and some officials are in favor of that, and have said so openly). Separation of powers and all that.

Don't be ridiculous, it was only a coup d'état because your courts are being dumb. And other remnants of Franco totalitarianism from Madrid.

Judicial independence is a remnant of Franco totalitarianism? Huh. Maybe it wasn't so bad?

Dunno, the independence laws and the UDI are fairly coup d'etatish to me. They wanted to create facts on the ground and bet on Madrid not daring to intervene with strength. A bet that failed (and you can look up my posts during the referendum and I was dismayed by the crackdown), but they did try to get away with it.

I don't get a particular kick from them being in jail, and I hope that rebellion gets dropped for lesser charges that don't require direct violence. Heck, I don't care if they get pardoned down the road, but they are no saints.

Today I learned my new favourite German word. It sounds much like the English word schmooze.
Schmoozen I think is the spelling.
Apparently in German German it means to cuddle.
In Austrian German it means to snog.

Pretty sure schmooze is Yiddish, which explains the similarity.

Yup, Yiddish.

From Webster:

QuoteSchmooze (also spelled shmooze) is one of a small, but significant, number of words borrowed from Yiddish that have become relatively common parts of the English language. ... It was the Hebrew shěmu'ōth ("news, rumor") that provided Yiddish with the noun shmues ("talk") and the verb shmuesn ("to talk or chat").

Well, it has definitely passed into regular German too with the mentioned meanings

German has some Yiddish words. OTOH, I usually find Yiddish relatively easy to understand (more so than Swiss German).

Catalonia already has a massive level of devolved competences.

From what you've posted about the Catalonian government, more like devolved incompetences.  :)

Death by selfie on the rise:

QuoteThe causes of selfie deaths along with the respective deaths and incident cases have been elicited in Table 1. Drowning, transport, and fall form the topmost three reasons for deaths caused by selfies. The most common drowning incidents include washed away by waves on beach, capsizing of boats while rowing, clicking selfies on shore while not knowing how to swim, or ignoring warnings. Similarly, for transport, it is majorly the accidents due to clicking in front of a running train. Among all the reasons for death, drowning and fire have the highest deaths/incident ratio. Also, most of the selfie-related deaths because of firearms occurred in the United States.
