I think Raz is painstakingly building a strawman.

I have no problem with banning foie gras (even though I consider it delicious) on the same grounds as halal slaughter. I would also happily ban recreational hunting, bull fighting, use of animals in circuses and other forms of animal cruelty. I support heavy penalties for people who deliberately hurt animals. I have no opinion on banning recreational fishing (I don't do it myself so have no vested interest in this) but isn't the difference there based on different level of awareness and ability to feel pain compared to higher vertebrae, especially birds and mammals?

An interesting turn about.  Previously you were against banning foie gras and could not reconcile it with your other beliefs.  You simply said you were not perfect.  Fish do in fact feel pain.  This has been demonstrated in the lab.  If we are so against animal cruelty then we ought to ban recreational fishing which involves impaling the mouth of a fish on hook.  If we are interested in simply harassing minorities, then that really isn't a problem.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Imagine living in a world where the problem with Islam is halal slaughter. :)

I evolved on foie gras. On fish, I simply asked a question - if what you say is true, then I support banning recreational fishing.

Well then it seems that taking care of the fish is should be higher on the list than how a few ethnic minorities produce food.  Fishing is much more widely practiced than kosher slaughter and it's recreational.  People do it just for fun.  Me, I don't really give a shit about the lives of cows, fish, or geese.  It's not really my problem.

Agent in security line just said to me assalamu alaikum. Some sort of German mind trick?

lol, Europe:  where racism would be hilarious if only it didn't lead to genocide and world wars.

Should've said you don't listen to hip hop.

So how's it feel being so far on the other side of the rainbow, Dorothy?

Fishing may be recreational, but people usually eat the fish anyway.

Should halal be allowed for recreational slaughter?

Most people  I know who go fishing don't.
There's only 1 or 2 amongst them who can be bothered with all the effort of preparing fish.... so even when they don't go fishing for a while they always have a ready supply of trout.

More fun facts from the Economist Pocket World in Figures.

The largest company by market cap is Apple, but the largest company by net profit is Vodafone.  Twice the net profit of Apple.  Kind of weird.

The largest single sovereign wealth fund is Norway's, larger than UAE's (2) and Saudi Arabia's (3).  However, three Chinese funds are listed seperately, and would be larger than Norway's if combined.

Do these other people catch and release?

Vodafone sold their stake in Verizon in 2014, so what your book reports must be this one-time profit. They don't make nearly as much from their operational business.

Thats the rule in a lot of places anyway.
But where its not they just pass it on to the few who do butcher (is that the word for fish? seems off) fish.
