40% of marriages in Egypt are to 1st cousins.  From The Economist.

The most translated author from English-to-Arabic after William Shakespeare in Egypt is Agatha Christie.   From UNESCO.

You mean Arabs don't use the KJV?  :(

Apparently they suck up detective and mystery novels like it's nobody's business.  Who knew.

Well, I doubt Tolkein would be well received.  Medieval fantasy kinda hits close to home.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

This is how they keep the Ptolemaic line intact.

No shit. They're all inbred.

Did anything noteworthy happen in Spain today?  My Spickfund had a significant uptick (from a deep hole).

Socialists failed to form a government. Strange that your stock went up though, they were going in with a coalition with the liberals, which I would think was market-friendly.

Savonarola

I saw a car with this window decal today; and thought Lust would appreciate it:

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

1: yes. That's the main point. Gives a  photo of the dick who robbed me.
It also sends a message when it detects motion, so there is a (small) chance I could notice this in time to call the police.
2: value isn't a problem. But as you say sentimental value. Also inconvenience . I don't have everything on my computers backed up and some things that I own were presents and have been with me for a while.
3: since I can't bolt it down anywhere they would just steal the safe.
And the camera cost 50 euros and could also be used as a Web cam if I wanted. Hardly a big investment

Back up your computer, and if you really thing that the sentimental-value stuff is likely to be stolen (even if it's tucked far away from the cash-value stuff), put it in a bank safe: this is SWITZERLAND for the love of God, there must be no-tell safe-deposit boxes on every corner.

While a safe-deposit box fees may very well add up to more than the cost of the cheap camera, even an expensive won't actually keep your stuff safe in any way whatsoever.  You think Jacques Junkie isn't going to just dump your sentimental stuff in the trash while he's dashing off to his dealer to trade your computer for a 20 euro bag of dope?

Seems pretty unremarkable to me. Not very trashy, not very catchy.

It would sound decent without the vocals.

Applying for a visa for turkey.  Wow they're demanding. Have to upload so many documents and the site is muttering about visiting a consulate?
Yet so many British people go there every year as a standard beach resort place..... huh!?
