QuotePrior to 1921, the upper Colorado above the confluence with the Green River in Utah was not considered part of the main stem. This section of the Colorado had been known as the Grand River since 1836. In 1921, U.S. Representative Edward T. Taylor of Colorado petitioned the Congressional Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce to rename the Grand River as the Colorado River. Taylor saw the fact that the Colorado River started outside the border of his state as an "abomination".''

On July 25, the name change was made official in House Joint Resolution 460 of the 66th Congress, over the objections of representatives from Wyoming, Utah, and the USGS, which noted that the Green River was much longer and had a larger drainage basin above its confluence with the Grand River, although the Grand contributed a greater flow of water.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.

Under constant care and tutelage by concerned parties, my weight finally stopped shrinking for the first time I left Tennessee- it raised up to the heights of 123 pounds. The missus in particular worked hard at creating southern specialties she had to special-order ingredients for. Unfortunately, I am left to my own devices for a short while, and expect the weight-loss may resume in the near future. I will try to take steps to forestall this.

So, with such a caring girl around, will you actually become a man and look for gainful employment, or do you still maintain your aversion toward that?

Look for? I've had a job for some time now! The poor missus works ten hours a day, six days a week, but of course it isn't necessary in the slightest. Gainful employment is nothing I've shirked from; it is merely that I fear hard work. I am not going to die alone an office floor, working to an early grave for the unappreciative. If I am not very careful, I may end up working 45 hours a week; This is a great evil and I am resolved to avoid it by such means as are possible.

The missus entrusts her financial decisions to me; I would prefer she not work at all, but as a trial she may perhaps work part-time somewhere three days out of the week. Naturally she must leave her current dreary work environment as soon as possible. Fortunately, she is a rural maiden, inured to spartan lifestyle, and so I do not anticipate any hunger for luxuries that would be disruptive to the humble life I wish to live. If she did, she'd have to go before i'd take on more work for such a meaningless frippery.

I found this infographic...interesting. Out of people currently working (though probably skewed as I wonder if the survey is to people who opted in at salary.com).

Part interesting for me is that 50% of those they employees they see jobhunting said they received a raise in the past year.

Well, there are raises and there are raises.  A raise that barely outpaces inflation is not that valuable in retaining someone-- even if said employee is given that golden "You're one of the lucky few who actually got a raise" line.

My last company gave us all "you're one of the lucky few who didn't get laid off" line instead, as well as massive benefit cost increases yearly.  Shocking that so many people left. :hmm:

I used to have a boss who always cried poor & claimed to me one year when we were going over my review that his raise was smaller than mine, budget was getting tighter, we all had to make sacrifices, etc.  Then a few days later I overheard him talking to another manager about their bonuses being the highest in ten years.

Heh... at my last company, at one point (this was like year 3 of pay freezes) our CEO had the audacity to tell us all that raises "were a thing of the past" and you'd never again get one unless you got promoted, and there were plenty of open job opportunities at that time (which there were not), and that what was happening at our company was happening "everywhere". :lmfao:

I'm actually kind of amazed that that piece of shit is still the CEO.  I honestly could have been a better CEO than him, and I'm not just saying that since I don't think I'm anywhere close to as good as my current CEO.
