   Some Mercedes-Benz exec visiting the Alabama plant from the fatherland got his ass cuffed and brought downtown after a traffic stop since he only had his German ID card and not his passport. 

Last year, he would have gotten a citation (or probably never been asked for proof of his immigration status in the first place, since he was presumably cruising around in a Merc with perfect English) and gone on his merry way, to have the cite dismissed at his convenience when he brought his passport in. 

Great new law.  I hope they took the time to scrutinize his answer to the "Were you ever affiliated with the National Socialist German Workers Party between 1933 and 1945?" question on the entrance card.
