Totally agreed. I watched the game till the end of regular time, then when this morning i've read that VG kept one of his substitutions for the keeper at 120', I was 'he's a fucking genius'.

Apparently Krul has been doing nothing but penalty training for the last 7 weeks.

I'm surprised that the idea of a penalty shootout ringer goalkeeper never occurred to anyone before.  It seems like a no-brainer to me.

It requires you to save a substitution for the 120th minute, which is something you can only afford if you're playing a lesser team, but really can't score and don't have the balls or the bench width to put in an extra attacker.

If you're under pressure at all in the extra time you'll want a fresh midfielder or defender instead.

Actually, while it is a big risk, the ideal outcome may be a win. The dutch losing in the finals is becoming a pedictable tradition.
