In terms of personality, Kaga is very cool and professional without much in the way of expressed emotion, while Akagi is more feminine, although she is decidedly confident. She also hideously understates her own extensive repair times and fuel consumption.

To answer the question though, I prefer the IJN Houshou. She is a more mothering, model-housewife type carrier who is experienced and supportive of the more energetic, more capable carriers that demand so much attention.
