Lexington class.  Even though a lot of early carriers had 8" guns, only the Lexingtons had them in turrents.

Viking

Lexington with Kaga and Akagi as close seconds.

anyways, What about USS Ranger?, the first keel up fleet carrier, as opposed to converted BB or BC or a test of concept ship.
First Maxim - "There are only two amounts, too few and enough."
First Corollary - "You cannot have too many soldiers, only too few supplies."
Second Maxim - "Be willing to exchange a bad idea for a good one."
Second Corollary - "You can only be wrong or agree with me."

A terrorist which starts a slaughter quoting Locke, Burke and Mill has completely missed the point.
The fact remains that the only person or group to applaud the Norway massacre are random Islamists.

I'm going with Kaga; the others mostly look like they were designed.  Kaga looks like someone left a hull in an alley and a bunch of homeless people built flat-topped housing projects rather haphazardly on the hull.
The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

Bayraktar!

Monoriu

Yeah, based on looks alone, I'd vote for Kaga as well.  The others look like serious designs.  Kaga has a very "anime" look.  I particularly like the 3 big AA guns that point toward the sky, for some reason.

celedhring

Aye, voted for the Kaga for how freaky and irrational it looks.

Kaga, based on the fact that it looks like some dystopian floating colony.  Probably one of my favorite themes in pulp science fiction.
Experience bij!

I was focusing on 20s carriers.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

I like the 1918 conversion of Furious, it's an aircraft carrier that still looks like a respectable warship.
But of the ones pictured, I'll go with Kaga as well.

It was Dirty Mike and the boys.  Floating soup kitchen.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

To answer the question though, I prefer the IJN Houshou. She is a more mothering, model-housewife type carrier who is experienced and supportive of the more energetic, more capable carriers that demand so much attention.

Lettow, I knew you would go for a Japanese carrier. Come on! We are American! Be American!  :)

That's not surprising at all.  Their excellent cameras are a side-effect of their naval armament industry.

I was making a Dr. Strangelove reference.  :P

There's nothing wrong with appreciating a foreign warship.  Mind you, Hosho isn't in the poll, as I consider it one of the experimental ships.  Maybe I'll do another poll, although that would just be Argus, Langley and Hosho.

It's also unusual to prefer a warship because of it's anthropomorphized female avatar, but I suppose I don't really care why you prefer the ship you prefer, just that you love a warship.
