There's nothing wrong with appreciating a foreign warship.  Mind you, Hosho isn't in the poll, as I consider it one of the experimental ships.  Maybe I'll do another poll, although that would just be Argus, Langley and Hosho.

It's also unusual to prefer a warship because of it's anthropomorphized female avatar, but I suppose I don't really care why you prefer the ship you prefer, just that you love a warship.

I agree--I wouldn't expect that all Americans go for an American carrier, and there is nothing wrong with picking a Japanese carrier.

However, I think most of us knew Lettow was going to go for a Japanese carrier. If you always go for the Japanese and you aren't Japanese, something isn't right.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

Given his criteria, perhaps if they were to anthropomorphize some US warships, it might give him some other choices.  Although he might still choose the Japanese ship, just because he's fetishized an idealized version of their culture.  Still, before he got really heavily into anime, he might have made a different choice.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

While all ships are vessels and therefore have always been represented as feminine imagery despite their roles in warfare, I can see Lettow's attraction to the Hosho and its motherly role as a training ship with auxiliary support duties throughout the war, considering his own his personal relationship with his mother and how it has colored his approach and subsequent relationships with women.

Personally, I would've picked Lettow for a Ryuho fanboi.  Submarine tenders have more maternal traits attached to them, and combined with the obvious incestuous sexual imagery, it would fit Lettow like a glove.  A warm, stroking, maternal glove of comfort and service, below the waterline and away from the world's judgmental glare.  As it were.

Hey man, I'm a fast attack power projection kind of guy, whether it's immediately going on the offensive in the Marshalls to projecting multiple CVBGs into the North Sea to prosecute air strikes into the Kola Peninsula.

Lexington class.  Even though a lot of early carriers had 8" guns, only the Lexingtons had them in turrents.

Kaga has a pair of turrets - either side of the upper forward flying off deck!

I thought Akagi did too, but I can't see them. :hmm:

I must admit I have to vote for Lexington too, though; not only is she the best design but also the most stylish looking (apart from the shudderworthy funnel, of course.)

Neil, I thought Furious was normally classed as an experimental carrier? Hermes as well? They're in the same category as Hosho, Argus and Langley in the WNT, aren't they?

To answer the question though, I prefer the IJN Houshou. She is a more mothering, model-housewife type carrier who is experienced and supportive of the more energetic, more capable carriers that demand so much attention.

Lettow, I knew you would go for a Japanese carrier. Come on! We are American! Be American!  :)

Given those 3 choices, I'd go with the Argus.

Well, I certainly spooged.

That's an Imperial Japanese Navy uniform, right?  What is that, Ensign or WO?  Pretty sure one thick stripe is Ensign.
