About 25 years ago most ski hills banned snow boards because the old folks thought it was the most deeply retarded thing they ever saw.

I assume that you dont get up on ski hills that much Yi.  If you did you would see most the the under 25 crowd was spending most of their time "skiing" off those metal rails.

And I would still think it's a retarded Olympic event.

It's okay, my generation think this is retarded, but it'll probably be an olympic event soon.

Why? It takes a tremendous amount of skill.

I don't like athletic events you win on "style."

To complete the analogy that must mean that lots of people 25 and under are riding those where you live.  I would move if I was you.

What I think you are saying is you dont like sports where judgment from officials is required.  That would remove a lot of sports from contention.  But I grant you that it would eliminate the Americans cheating with the Russians...

QuoteFrench publication L'Equipe has reported that the United States and Russia struck a deal to mutually assure higher marks in the team event and in the ice dance, while also shutting out Canada from the gold in those competitions.

I agree.  If an event is scored by style points, it's not really a sport, even if it takes a lot of athletic skill.

You like your sports simple.  I can understand that coming from you.

Any reffed sport requires judgement from officials.  What I meant is I don't like competitions that win on style, or prettiness, or aesthetics.

Well, under 20, but yes. And I will. Soon.

Watched a couple practice runs for the men's downhill.  Announcer said in the longest jump the skiers are airborne for 110 yards. That's crazy.

Canadian sisters dominate the freestyle moguls. They missed the sweep though leaving the third sister in 12th position.
just watched it, they did great! :)
I just love watching this sport :)

Ok, but that is not what was happening.  They get X number of points for executing the points correctly.  If it was just style, prettiness or aeasthetics you wouldnt be seeing all those amazing acrobatics.

A change of Avatar is in order

I wonder why you allow the summer games to pass without an avatar change?  :P

The longer you go after shedding your fake alias the more the dorsey idiocy returns.

Look at my forum name....

I agree with CC. You can't just ignore that the winter sports that people actually do involve a lot of snowboards and tricks/acrobatics.

If we are going to cull winter sports, it would make a lot more sense to look at something like bobsled, skeleton, or luge. How many people actually do these sports, and how many would do them if not for the Olympics (for the record, I don't think we need to cull those)? Your medalists in the snowboard events are extremely talented and are besting deep talent pools, whereas we may end up with medalists in bobsledding that took up the sport a couple years ago because it gave them a shot at an Olympic medal.
