Where I would get behind culling in the winter games is on the standards for countries to get participants. It is painful to watch a bunch of warm weather countries with a rich guy or two that is not at international standards but probably bought his way into the Olympic games.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

That's pretty ironical, what with somebody with a University of Miami football avatar.  Even if it is the Most Reverend Ray Ray.

Glad to see home field advantage is paying off for the Russkies.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Russians had an Ivan Drago style training program for these games. Putin probably wants to do whatever it takes to make sure they don't win just 3 gold medals here (or whatever it was in Vancouver).

Cheating to win is one thing. But exploiting the rules so you can wear a Mariachi costume while getting curbstomped on the ski slopes is just embarrassing. Ray Ray and Uncle Luke would never get behind that.

I agree with CC. You can't just ignore that the winter sports that people actually do involve a lot of snowboards and tricks/acrobatics.

If we followed this logic we'd eliminate everything except tennis, basketball, soccer, and jogging.  When was the last time you ran the hurdles or pole vaulted?

I'm not sure what logic you are following, considering I said that I'm not in favor of culling any of the sports mentioned.

However, I see people running hurdles all the time. I work out at a high school with an open track, and they usually have a lane or two with hurdles set up (I presume most of the people using them are high school athletes training). There is also an area set up for pole vault, though while I have never seen it used, there must be a team.

I have no idea what the numbers look like, but I wouldn't be shocked if the number of people who have experience running hurdles exceeds those with experience snowboarding. I do know I'd be pissed off if hurdles was removed from the summer games because I think that is a legit sport with a healthy level of participation.

If you want a sport I wouldn't object to removing from the games, lets start with dressage.

Yi, I also strenuously object to any insinuation that I am a jogger. I am a runner. I just don't run very fast.

i was not insinuating anything about you personally.  I was operating under the mistaken assumption you thought only sports with mass participation should be featured in the Olympics.

If there are events to be cut, it should be the non sport ones,  like fucking figure skating.

Anna Gasser had to restart her run but couldn't climb back the start ramp, so her coach jumped to the rescue but when push came to shove he didn't know where to push her as he realised he'd had to grab her ass to actually help her, so instead he just stood behind her watching her slip. Poor guy.
