Reviews of the mythical Justice League Snyder Cut are in and they are quite favorable.

I will watch it over the weekend in several chunks because sitting on a couch to watch a 4+ hour movie without interruption is impossible while taking care of a 2-month old baby.
Did you buy that Mother Box meal in a box for 200 dollars too?

Couple Scandinavian shows airing here that are good.

One i finished is The Investigation. A Danish, or Swedish, show based on the real investigation into the disappearance of a woman journalist on a home made submarine in the Sund.

The other is a Swedish show called, in English, Beartown. It's about a Swedish hockey player who retires from the NHL and returns home to coach a smalltown junior hockey team. Wasn't sure what to expect. At first I thought it would be like a Swedish Mighty Ducks, but then I remembered Scandinavians don't do humour; and yeah, it's got a very serious storyline. Very good.

Yeah Beartown is quite good and that comes from somebody that doesn't give a hoot about hockey. It gets quite dark, mind.

Eurovision is coming and Popbitch () is as excited as I am:

This could be Rotterdam...

Ah, Eurovision. The only music contest in the world where a country that recently sent a Robin Thicke lookalike to sing about getting lost in a lady's "sweet cheesecake" is now facing disqualification for trying to enter suspected pro-nationalist government propaganda to clamp down on political protest at home. (No, not us. Belarus.)

How is the rest of this year's contest shaping up?

* ICELAND: Last year's nailed-on favourites have entered another quirky indie bedroom funk number. Fun, but doesn't pack quite the same punch as 2020.
[We blame the kids choir] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORDK1XQToAY)

* MALTA: Quietly crept up to become the bookies' favourite, Destiny (a former Junior Eurovision winner and Britain's Got Talent semi-finalist) has a very catchy Lizzo-meets-electroswing song.
[Not a daft bet] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQKiHr5qEfA)

* ITALY: Like Belarus, Italy were also told they'd have to make changes to their song to comply with Eurovision rules. Specifically, removing a lyric that translates in English as "You'd better touch your nuts!"
[Sounds like Italian Terrorvision] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Upt-ddaw04)
Let's bomb Russia!

The Larch

There's apparently some internal Russian controversy regarding their entry, and in a way you would not initially suspect.

QuoteRussia's Eurovision entry to be investigated for 'illegal' lyrics
Manizha's song Russian Woman incites hatred towards men and should be banned from the contest, say critics

I loved last year's Russian entry, and was hoping that they'd be able to repeat. Now they'll be deprived of the spotlight and victory they deserved.  :(

So, the Snyder Cut of Justice League. It's the same movie, just ridiculously longer, slower and more insane.

Sheilbh

He is not a good director. But because of this redemption arc we will have to put up with a lot more of his turgid nonsense :bleeding: <_<

I'll play devil's advocate in that I used to hate Snyder's movies until very recently. But I watched the director's cuts of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman this week and found them decent. Overly long, full of over-the-top, on-the-nose imagery, but they definitely reflect one man's vision of what superheros mean to him and I think that's really cool. And they're way different than the standard cookie-cutter Marvel fare, so that's cool too.

I've also recently had a conversion on the Star Wars prequels, in that I don't actively hate them anymore and actually prefer them to the sequels.  ;)

Snyder is a really good cinematographer.  When he wants to get a shot he gets it, and it's pretty clear that he's translating his vision to the screen.  The problem is he shouldn't be allowed near the director's chair or the script.

Oh, Justice League looks amazing. It's without a doubt the best-looking DC movie he's made. Plus the 4:3 aspect ratio is nice to see, nobody does movies with it nowadays, particularly these ones.

But it's just one big noisy bag of air. And it's 4 hour long which is pretty ridiculous for a rather standard "team up and beat the big bad guy" superhero movie - it doesn't even have the emo pretentiousness of BvS. The whole endeavour is frankly ridiculous which certainly makes the movie fairly unique and decidedly the work of an auteur - but that's not necessarily a good thing. That said, this version is preferable to the theatrical cut, but it's not worth 4 hours of your life.

I love that the actual movie ends up at around the 3:30 mark, but then he spends like 20 minutes setting up movies that he'll never (hopefully) make.

Anything is better than the shitstain Whedon produced. Thankfully he'll never work again.

I'd say if anyone is interested in watching this, keep in mind it's a SNYDER film and if you hated any of his other films you won't like this one so don't bother. It's 4 hours of unadulterated ZACK SNYDER

That said I actually really liked it. In the genre of MCU/DCU movies, I'd rank this as my second favorite movie, behind Infinity War.

I thought Snyder was fine working from comics where he more or less only has to translate the comic images to the screen (300, Watchmen). Without that ... well, couldn't care less. :D
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Yeah I rather enjoyed his earlier stuff like the two movies you mentioned.  But I found BvS nigh-on unwatchable, and never even bothered with Justice League.
