I mean, never in my life I'd have imagined to see Thomas Vinterberg scoring an Oscan nod.  :)

Nope. First Dane to ever receive a nomination for best director.

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom has nominations for both male and female leads, but no Best Picture nomination?

Not that unusual. It doesn't have nominations for director or script either, so I guess it's a movie more about actor performances than story per se.

Syt

True, it's a bio picture, which is usually a vehicle for best actor Oscars.

Also, I've not seen or heard of any of the nominated movies except for Ma Rainey's Black Bottom which showed up in today's New Yorker crossword puzzle.

But it's also a stage adaptation which in my head tends to not necessarily make for a great "film" film, but does give space for performers.
Let's bomb Russia!

There are actually several biographical movies this year, it seems that all the big "black" movies this year deal with real people in one way or the other. Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, The United States Vs. Billie Holiday, Judas and the Black Messiah and One Night in Miami all feature historical characters and/or situations, two of them are based on plays (Ma Rainey & One night in Miami). 4 out of 5 supporting actor nominees are all real people. Lots of movies based on musicians too (adding Sound of Metal to the ones already mentioned).

True, IIRC  last year The Two Popes got nominations for best actor & best supporting actor for Jonathan Pryce & Anthony Hopkins and nothing else, and was also based on a play.

Reviews of the mythical Justice League Snyder Cut are in and they are quite favorable.

I will watch it over the weekend in several chunks because sitting on a couch to watch a 4+ hour movie without interruption is impossible while taking care of a 2-month old baby.
