Does the mayor of NYC have the power to bust trusts? Because IMO the US could really use some trust-busting right about now, but I wouldn't expect it to come from the civic government of NYC.

It is one of the problems we are facing in Austin, Texas. With the Federal government and State governments increasingly not just going asleep at the wheel but actively making things worse, responsibility increasingly falls on local governments. And they lack both the resources and the legal mechanisms.

So destruction of the national economy and dismantling of social services lead to tons of social problems in population centers. And then the mayor gets blamed.
