If the creation of money leads to prostitution ... wouldn't the oldest profession be that of creating money? 😉

Maybe the motivation of the first guy to create money was to pay prostitutes?  :hmm:

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

Quite possibly, the first coins were minted in Lydia about 600BC and Herodotus has this to say on the customs of the Lydians :

"I:93. Of marvels to be recorded the land of Lydia has no great store as compared with other lands, excepting the gold-dust which is carried down from Tmolos; but one work it has to show which is larger far than any other except only those in Egypt and Babylon: for there is there the sepulchral monument of Alyattes the father of Croesus, of which the base is made of larger stones and the rest of the monument is of earth piled up. And this was built by contributions of those who practised trade and of the artisans and the girls who plied their traffic there; and still there existed to my own time boundary-stones five in number erected upon the monument above, on which were carved inscriptions telling how much of the work was done by each class; and upon measurement it was found that the work of the girls was the greatest in amount. For the daughters of the common people in Lydia practice prostitution one and all, to gather for themselves dowries, continuing this until the time when they marry; and the girls give themselves away in marriage. Now the circuit of the monument is six furlongs and two hundred feet, and the breadth is thirteen hundred feet. And adjoining the monument is a great lake, which the Lydians say has a never-failing supply of water, and it is called the lake of Gyges. Such is the nature of this monument."

I think you can put anything in a prenup you fucking please.

I think so but that doesn't mean it will be enforceable.

Yeah, I was going to say, people can put whatever they want in contracts.  Whether the court will enforce the agreement is another matter.

The money creators did not self regulate, so not a profession  :smarty:

It is important to remember Herodotus is putting on a show here. He is going to tell the most interesting anecdotes.

The eruption here in Iceland has now been ongoing for 3 months. The lava flow today is twice the volume it was at the beginning, which is the opposite of what's been observed here for the last few centuries, usually eruptions start strong and then peter out.  :hmm: In those 3 months it's nicely filled in all the valleys and depressions around the small mountains who formed there sub glacially during the last Ice Age.

Now it's flowing down from the highlands and has only a relatively short distance to travel before it cuts off the southern road from Grindavík. It'll also take out one farmstead before flowing out into the sea in the next few weeks. The barriers built to slow it down only lasted a week before being inundated so no further action will be taken to try to save the road or the farmstead, nature will have to take it's course.

If this eruption is a shield volcano in formation then a strong response will be mounted if it lasts years or decades and starts to head toward Grindavík itself.
