It's not reported that much internationally, but Merkel is slowly losing her grip on power. Her interior minister is openly defying her time and again, her coalition partner is very unhappy and today her faction in parliament elected a new chief against her explicit wishes. Let's see how much longer she will stay in her office.

How does this work? Can the Bundestag just appoint another Chancellor or will this necessarily result in an election?

And she said. "They're both my daughters."

It's a difficult situation for a guy to be put in.  About the only thing I feel like I can say when someone shows me a pic of their daughter is "Awww, how cute!" 

Gets awkward when they tell me she's 19 or 20 but I just roll with it & say "OMG they're adorable at that age"
