I never realized how much strain using a mouse puts on your neck.  I just put my mouse on the other side of the keyboard, and my neck is feeling all kinds of weird from that realignment.

That's fine.  It's when you computer tells you to kill your neighbors is when need worry.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

No it's weird, I'm reprocessing my cds to mp3/flacs, so have in addition to a web-brower, the task bar shows four other programs, file explorer, flac, office and the RazorLame front end. Which when it's running shows it's sword icon, your name Raz... followed by the percentage completion of the files in that batch.

Just kinda odd to be reminded of you nick, several times a day for like the past month.

A neat map, may help to explain the "No Way Are Big Macs That Expensive, It's An Obvious Conspiracy Supporting Minimum Wage" thing from a few pages back--

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/govbeat/wp/2014/08/18/map-how-much-100-is-really-worth-in-every-state/

QuoteNot all Benjamins are created equal.

For the first time ever, the federal government this year introduced a data series that compares price differences among states and metropolitan areas. Those estimates — regional price parities and real personal income — offer something simple and immensely useful for anyone considering making a move: They allow you to compare how far your money goes in each state.

We covered the implications — how you might use the data to compare income or rent in one state with another — when the Bureau of Economic Analysis released the data in April, and today the Tax Foundation published the following map based on the same data to show how far $100 would go in each state.

You'd squeeze the most out of $100 in Mississippi, where you could use it to buy $115.74 worth of goods and services, relative to the national average. Arkansas comes next, followed by Missouri, Alabama and South Dakota. The state where $100 falls flattest is Hawaii, where that same $100 gets you only $85.32. (D.C., though not a state, is even worse: It would buy you just $84.60 in goods.)

As the Tax Foundation post's authors note, those differences have real implications on how people choose where to live, how states or cities choose to tax and even who has access to government assistance programs.

Surprised ND is so cheap, considering how much I've heard about the inflated housing market there.

I suppose a Big Mac could cost $4.40 in Hawaii, but then to call that the US price for a Big Mac is An Obvious Conspiracy Supporting the Minimum Wage.

Particularly as Hawaii has a much higher minimum wage than $7.25.

So I was reading the Guardian recap of a new reality show about Tatler, the magazine for posh people and this totally ruined my day:
Quote1) Posh people really, really love their dogs. One of Tatler's best-selling issues featured a corgi on the cover. This is not just a window into the curious mind of the Tatler reader, but an explanation for why their style advice often features lines such as: "The Whippet has over taken the pug as the chic dog de jour," and why every editorial meeting seem to include mention of a dog – "What is Tatler porn? Is it labradors gamboling?" – and why there is also a dog in the office. All of which brings up terrible memories of the events of 2013, when Alan TBH Plumptre, Tatler's staff daschund, met an unsightly end in a revolving door. RIP, Alan.
