Isn't that normal? My mam generally controls the money and my dad has his pocket money- though its not a tightly controlled thing.
In Japan especially as in traditional pre-socialist Europe it makes big sense the man works non-stop, leaves home 6am in the morning and gets home 10pm at night, doesn't really get much time to spend anything or pay attention to household finances.

QuoteBut in many places 500 yen would barely be enough for a bowl of noodles or a McDonald's burger.
err....what?
What ridiculous journalism just trying to paint a picture of grim Blade Runneresque summer expensive Tokyo.
A McDonalds hamburger costs 100 yen in every McDonalds in the country.

The expensiveness of Tokyo is overrated. Trains are cheap as hell and food and drink is pretty much the same as elsewhere in Japan. Maybe slightly less at times due to all the competition. The only places where prices are higher- rent, parking, etc.... will be sorted by the household budget so shouldnt affect the guy.

QuoteOn average, they only spend 2,860 yen on a night of drinking which is almost half of what they used to spend just three years ago.
I havent been around that long but from what I gather this does seem true. I missed the party :(

They may just be getting older.  I mean, seriously, Japan is like Britain in Children of Men, right?  Who the fuck's gonna be in my porn in 2040?  Robots?  Well OK.

Quater pounder with cheese was like 640 yen.

Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Good question.  I dunno.  I know the higher end Sahara and Rubicon packages do.

The set.
And that's some sort of special burger, not a regular hamburger.

Is this quite possibly the most disgusting food ever invented?  :hmm:

Not really.  My usual recourse to invoking mass animal butchery notwithstanding, it's not very different from eating a shrimp, is it?  Other than the being alive and swarming, I suppose, although the article suggests methods by which this can be avoided (namely, refrigeration and asphyxiation).

I suspect most people see a difference between eating cooked shrimp and live maggots.  :hmm: Also, cooked shrimp are unlikely, if they are of the wrong species, to bore into your intestines:(

Aiding and abeting terrorists are we FM?  That's ok so long as none of them are Sooner fans.

Hey Seedy, what year is your Heep? I ask because I hear the new bigger engine everyone was looking forward to has problems too. I hope you have no problems with yours.

Oh, and is the hard top good enough in winter? I know the soft top is no good for the cold months, but I imagine the hard top if sealed properly should be better right?

MBM, if you get the Jeep and decide to upgrade suspension and tires, do it right, the Death Wobble is no joke.

It's a 2008;  I bought it in March 2010 with 27K miles on it, and I just rolled it over 41K.  I'm happy with the 3.8 V6, but it will eat about a quart of oil in time for the 5,000 mile oil change.  Seals are good, no leaks, no issues.  I anticipated there might be some issues with the newer, bigger engine:  there usually always are for the first year of a new engine.

QuoteOh, and is the hard top good enough in winter? I know the soft top is no good for the cold months, but I imagine the hard top if sealed properly should be better right?

Hard top isn't bad in winter, but I know why people get soft tops for summer:  you can cook like a baked potato in that thing.  :D  The good thing about the Jeep in the winter is the air system;  it's like having afterburners on your dashboard, and the Jeep stays warm, even without any insulation for the hard top.

QuoteMBM, if you get the Jeep and decide to upgrade suspension and tires, do it right, the Death Wobble is no joke.

It's not a problem if you do it right.
The good thing about the Wrangler is you can still lift it 3.5" and put 35" tires on it and give it an aggressive look without having to mess with the factory suspension at all;  it's when people start getting silly with things like 5 or 6" lifts, fucking with the swing bar and stuff: and then, the Death Wobble happens when people don't re-torque the shit they fucked up.  If you're going to mess around with suspension bars, for the love of Christ, re-torque the bolts after several miles, and then do it again.  And again, if necessary.  Hell, you do it when you change tires.
Assholes give themselves Death Wobbles by not letting people who know what they're doing to do it--or worse, do it themselves.
