Quote from: Legbiter on September 26, 2025, 10:24:39 AMSt. Petersburg transport boss Alexander Fedotov has died after falling out of a window of a 5 star hotel at Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow. He belonged to the same "clan" as Roman Starovoit who as the transport minister was fired by Putin in July and subsequently died of a "suicide" the same day. :hmm:

Stay on the ground floor guys.

At least they were not "almost killed" by escalator.

Moldova elects the Euro friendly party despite Russian meddling.  Very good news!

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

Yeah I have been seeing a lot of rejoicing about this. What makes this such a big deal?

Any loss by Russia is a win for democracy, liberalism and human decency.

I think two main reasons. Maldova is particularly susceptible to Russian meddling in their election.  The Russians poured an estimated $200 million into the election, in ways that can be traced.  Who knows how many other resources they spent covertly.  And despite all of that, Moldovans voted overwhelmingly for the pro European party. If it can happen there, there is hope for everyone.

Second, a Russian victory in that election would've been disastrous to the Ukrainians.

How does it affect Ukraine?

Obviously great for Moldova but they're so small and weak and geographically cut off from Russia at the moment so I would have thought they wouldn't really be much of a threat even if they went full Georgia.

I can only guess Russia would try some crap with Ukraine "invading" Moldova to damage their reputation?

Russia has had ~1500 troops in the Transnistria region of Moldova forever...not much use on their own, but a pro-Putin regime could look to cause a lot of trouble in Ukraine's rear.

Josquius

I don't think they could. As I say Moldovas army is miniscule, and getting involved against Ukraine is way beyond what even a pro Russia party would manage.

For Russia those transnistria soldiers are doing as much as can be expected of them in making sure Ukraine has to keep some troops on that border.

The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

May include in his coalition this nifty anti-Mongers/Josq party...

QuoteThe party opposes green politics, liberalism and progressivism and wants to abolish all bicycle lanes. It has stated its support for "cars, coal and the crown".

This matters a hell of a lot more than Moldova. Czechia are a top supporter. :(
