I've seen energy reporters talk about it, but I think China is the black hole of Western journalism (and comprehension) of the world right now. We see its gravitational effects everywhere but very rarely see the cause.

This is, of course, in part deliberate. Since Xi took over it has become more and more difficult for Western reporters to work in China, there are increasingly few bureaus for Western papers and agencies because of restrictions and, increasingly, risk. Those reporters have in recent years moved to Hong Kong and now often Taipei because Hong Kong is becoming more challenging. There are still some academic contacts with, I'd say, sympathetic Western academics and there are out and out fellow travellers/useful idiots who are basically producing propaganda. But that's not the only reason by a long stretch.

The fact the US tried blockading seems to have been forgotten.  It was several weeks ago, which in social media time is decades ago, so I suppose that is understandable?

Trump is so erratic that people forget what happened a week ago because he's changed direction 10 ways in the meantime. Kind of like a psychological deke.
