The Minsky Moment

Quote from: Richard Hakluyt on March 28, 2026, 02:45:51 AMThe USA has one ally left, the leader of their alliance, Israel.

And it's trapped in an early release Paradox game and can't peace out.

Propose White Peace.  Rejected
Propose White Peace.  Rejected
Propose White Peace.  Rejected
Propose White Peace.  Rejected
Propose White Peace.  Rejected . . .
We have, accordingly, always had plenty of excellent lawyers, though we often had to do without even tolerable administrators, and seen destined to endure the inconvenience of hereafter doing without any constructive statesmen at all.
--Woodrow Wilson

Careful, it will crash soon if you manage to propose peace in less than the theoretical interval. (Bug and WAD I guess).

Quote from: Baron von Schtinkenbutt on March 26, 2026, 12:43:57 PMThe energy crisis has been a boon for Russia.  I suspect this was part of the motivation for the strikes on the Baltic oil and gas terminals a couple days ago.  So, Ukraine has a vested interest in reducing its impact, and they can do so by helping the GCC secure the Strait of Hormuz and their oil and gas facilities.
Also at a really basic level Iran is an ally of Russia - so enemy's enemy. Russia is providing intelligence supporting Iranian strikes in the Gulf, Iran has provided missiles for strikes on Ukraine. In the slightly wider context, I'd very much expect Zelensky is trying with the US - and also Israel - to tie Iran and Russia together as one fight. I think that makes sense from a Ukrainian perspective, I think it could perhaps become challenging from a European perspective (and is, in itself, revealing) but I think Euro-support for Ukraine is strong enough to not really be affected by it.
Let's bomb Russia!

A US land attack to secure Strait of Hormuz would be 'nightmare', general warns
Quote'Frankly, it is about as difficult an operation as could conceive - an amphibious operation.
'Think Gallipoli for example in this context which did not go right.
:D
I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.
