It's really important to maintain that sort of reaction, and fight against the strong impulse to normalize.

We ought not to be surprised, but we can't find it normal.

Even if the Dems only tie it, that could be incredibly useful...forcing JD to sit his ass in the Senate most of the time could be a good thing.  Keeps him out of trouble elsewhere, and brings the chance to put him on the record/keep him in the spotlight on lots of issues he might rather avoid ahead of a Presidential primary.

From Stefan Müller

QuoteTo all ICE officers: You have federal immunity in the conduct of your duties, and anybody who lays a hand on you or tries to stop you or tries to obstruct you is committing a felony. You have immunity to perform your duties, and no one—no city official, no state official, no illegal alien, no leftist agitator, or domestic insurrectionist—can prevent you from fulfilling your legal obligations and duties. The Department of Justice has made it clear that if officials cross that line into obstruction, into criminal conspiracy against the United States or against ICE officers, they will face justice

He talks about laws and justice while saying the law does not apply.

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

Yeah I agree. The part where people throw up their hands and say "what are you going to do, of course they're terrible" play into the hands of the fascists IMO.

Two separate thoughts:

1) It seems like the best hope for the midterms is that the Democrats can get enough seats in the House of Representatives to act as a bit of a brake, though no real leader or strategy for that seems to have emerged (though maybe it's best for that to emerge after the election).

There's no real likelihood of a massive rebuke from the electorate such that Trump and his cronies would face actual impeachment and investigations for their corruption, is that right?

There's theoretically an outside chance that the Democrats could get a narrow majority in the Senate, but it's a stretch.

2) The Republicans are still looking for their Reichstag Fire moment IMO.

An astonishing proportion of the American electorate remains depoliticized. Nothing the Democrats have done so far convinces me they have taken the midterms seriously. People need to bypass that party, and organize locally.
