Because I have no impulse control I ordered: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/356080/the-elder-scrolls-betrayal-of-the-second-era

It's on backorder, but should arrive "soon"(TM)

As punishment for lack of impulse control you must post a full review here. :P

Will try :P I was looking for a solo hexcrawl RPG that would scratch a similar itch to exploring in Elder Scrolls games (and I think D100 Dungeons with its World Builder expansion will provide a solid basis for that) when I came across this. It looks like they also have a bunch of expansions planned for next year.

We had taken a break from Gloomhaven and played a bit of My City, another Legacy style game and some Everdell, which is a fun game.

I recently played Hegemony which was fun - bit like my pol sci degree stuffed into a game. I want to try it soon again.

As a Christmas present for myself, I ordered Burning Banners which looks fun.

Anyone tried either?

Beyond that I've played way too much PoG on RTT.

Burning banners is surprisingly fun in terms of all the spells and such offering tactical options despite the game being pretty light - don't bother with limiting yourself to the basic rules if you have played any other modern boardgame really, although I guess they would be good with kids. Gorgeous looking components, too.

Yeah, I played a little with my 10 year old yesterday and it worked well. He's pretty savvy though, so we'll definitely go advanced game next time.

I like the Warlords II meets AD&D 2. edition vibe that surrounds it.

That's a pretty good way to put it. :)

Yeah, Burning Banners is a lot of fun. The dream of a 6-player mega-campaign is there, but it's probably more realistic to just do a 2-player of that with both controlling all factions of their side.
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Yeah to be fair I don't think it'd be THAT fun as a multiplayer game. Seems to me like eliminating factions is a core strategy in the big campaign.
