Does Romania get any bonus points for speaking a Romance language, even if a bit slavified?

I had dinner tonight with a guy who knows a member of the Devil's Brigade. They live in the same small town in Ontario.   He was telling me some of the stories he heard about the training and their time in Italy. People were built tougher then.
