It is a great song in fairness.

But it is weird for a young American to know it.

I am not lying about HoI4. My son and his friends in High School play against each other and they all know this song because of that game.
Quote"This is a Russian warship. I propose you lay down arms and surrender to avoid bloodshed & unnecessary victims. Otherwise, you'll be bombed."

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

Sheilbh

Honestly I didn't know it was in HOI4.

But I can believe that - I legit think when someone's writing about the weird politics of young men online in the 2020s Paradox games will come up (possibly Paradox games plus lockdown too ). But I don't know - none of it makes sense to me. There are Enver Hoxha and Franco fancams out there and I just don't understand.
Let's bomb Russia!

It's typical of reactionary rightwingers to appropriate left leaning culture... Rage Agonst the Machine and now Bella Ciao. What's next? Bandiera Rossa?

"Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did."

grumbler

Quote from: Grey Fox on September 12, 2025, 05:53:10 PMThat can't be. Grumbler tells us that no one can be a fascist.

No, I am simply disagreeing with your assertion that everyone is a fascist.

The Caio Bella thing made me wonder if he wasn't one of those HoI4 weirdos.

We sang that song as kids during summer camp. And we turned out fine. Well, except the guy who became leader of the Hammer Skins, maybe. :hmm:
We are born dying, but we are compelled to fancy our chances.

Three lovely Prada points for HoI2 help

This kinda clashes with what his schoolmates said, describing him as very leftist.

Jacob

On one hand, I've recently been wondering if there is a line beyond which we can expect to see violent action from leftists, or even centrist-protect-democracy types. Is there a point at which violence will be triggered? If the assassin is indeed a leftist, the question to me is to what degree he's an outlier and to what degree he's an expression of broader trends.

On the other hand, if the assassination was motivated by a belief that Kirk was insufficiently radical in his reactionary rightism the question I will have is how the new GOP establishment respond to that. How do they respond to political attacks from their right flank, and how do they respond to physical attacks from those quarters?

This ironic use of left wing slogans certainly seems to be working. The bbc is reporting it straight and implying he was left wing :bleeding:

I think that's a lot of mainstream journalists right now too.

Things are slowly percoluating as before most things were reporting it as he must be left wing. Now more of a mix occurring. Nick Fuentes popping up a bit more.

I also learned that Laura Loomer has been deleting her tweets as she had until recently been very critical of Charlie Kirk.

I read a few people have been fired already. What happened to "why can't people take a joke" the right loves to say.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".

I'm seeing this one about a lot.

And lots of iterations of "my parents had never heard of this guy so they looked him up and now they're happy he's gone"
