My first thought was whether climate fatalism has an impact on this?

Some of it is ideological, sure. But another part is the whole rural vs urban thing that dominates so many cultural issues like this
Quote"This is a Russian warship. I propose you lay down arms and surrender to avoid bloodshed & unnecessary victims. Otherwise, you'll be bombed."

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

Sheilbh

Yeah - maybe. And I don't necessarily think ideological but I thought it because I definitely have friends whose explanation for not having kids (and I'm sure there's many reasons) is mainly to do with climate (as I say I'm sure there's more and that may just be what they're happy talking with friends about).
Let's bomb Russia!

With people without kids who I know the thing is either
1: They don't want to as they recognise it will reduce what they can do in life.
2' They're open to it someday. Maybe. Ish? But have other things going on right now. I expect many of these end up leaving it too late.
3: Ghey

The urban /rural thing is there. I think probably a wealth thing too.
Taking conservative as less educated but focusing just on respectable people who plan for kids rather than those who fall into it... those who don't go to uni usually build up a decent amount of money early. They're buying a house by the time they're 25 down the road from their mam.
Those who do go to uni usually tend to struggle through their 20s trying to catch up. They're moving around a lot and not really getting a stable foundation anywhere. Their wealth takes over the non uni goers later.

People who believe in birth control have a lower fertility rate than people who don't?
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Also, I had a job interview today.  I think it went well.  I interviewed at a local grocery store.  I dyed my beard in an attempt to impress people and not look so old.

I know very few people without kids and of those even fewer are in relationships.

It must be because my social life revolves around the activities my kids do.

Kiddo, you're not old. grumbler is old. I am old. You'll be fine.
If you don't remember Lepanto, it's not much of a drawback in grocery store.

You may find that 1 and 2 can be socially acceptable reasons, the actual reasons being:
4. They are unable, but it is too painful to discuss, even with loved ones.
5. They just don't want to, but people seem to have a hard time understanding there is no other reason.

I think 5 is the same as 1 here. Though maybe a true 5 of they bloody hate kids can be in there.

Not really. I meant they don't want kids because they just don't have the desire. Without weighing any pros or cons.

I meant mine as they don't want to too but fair enough, guess there's the more extreme don't even consider it vs the on balance no.

Speaking of kids.
Sunderland won yesterday. The scorer of the winning goal became a dad the day before yesterday.
Makes me think. How the hell do professional athletes manage this.
Even just thinking of men, women have
 another level of disruption.
With young kids about career really does a lot of doggy paddling. The sleep deprivation really impacts performance. When you're trying to be an elite athlete with such thin margins....
Do these people just give their kids to a nanny and go live in another house?
