I just saw this on reddit. I think it is real as first post was a year ago and last edited a month ago.

QuoteExcuse me sir or ma'am

but I couldn't help but notice.... are you a "girl"?? A "female?" A "member of the finer sex?"

Not that it matters too much, but it's just so rare to see a girl around here! I don't mind, no--quite to the contrary! It's so refreshing to see a girl online, to the point where I'm always telling all my friends "I really wish girls were better represented on the internet."

And here you are!

I don't mean to push or anything, but if you wanted to DM me about anything at all, I'd love to pick your brain and learn all there is to know about you. I'm sure you're an incredibly interesting girl--though I see you as just a person, really--and I think we could have lots to teach each other.

I've always wanted the chance to talk to a gorgeous lady--and I'm pretty sure you've got to be gorgeous based on the position of your text in the picture--so feel free to shoot me a message, any time at all! You don't have to be shy about it, because you're beautiful anyways (that's juyst a preview of all the compliments I have in store for our chat).

Looking forwards to speaking with you soon, princess!

EDIT: I couldn't help but notice you haven't sent your message yet. There's no need to be nervous! I promise I don't bite, haha

EDIT 2: In case you couldn't find it, you can click the little chat button from my profile and we can get talking ASAP. Not that I don't think you could find it, but just in case hahah

EDIT 3: look I don't understand why you're not even talking to me, is it something I said?

EDIT 4: I knew you were always a bitch, but I thought I was wrong. I thought you weren't like all the other girls out there but maybe I was too quick to judge

EDIT 5: don't ever contact me again whore

EDIT 6: hey are you there?

Not sure what the creation and edit time has to do with being real?
Could be someone refining the joke.
It hits a lot of the typical marks.

I thought of the joke angle as like you said hits all the typical marks. But in addition to creation and edit timing, I can also add that no one ever responded to it.

Feels a bit strange to continue to refine a joke over a year that no one has cared to respond to.

Unless part of the joke was being careful to word the original post such that no one would ever respond. This is either a creep or someone able to perfectly mimic a creep. If a creep, though, I can't see them sustaining the thread like that.

It definitively is funny, though. In either one sense of the word or the other.

I swear people weren't this stupid when I was a kid.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Familiarity breeds contempt. They were there, just harder to hear.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

They must have kept those kind of people away from kids or something.

There's an old book from the late 80s called High Weirdness by Mail.  It catalogued many of the crazy, disturbing and dumb publications/resources you could get through the mail.  Just about everything you see about the internet today that makes you worry about humanity is in there.  It's not new, the distribution is just more widespread.

Apparently a big problem lately that lots of people think they might have it.
But I think I might.
Am I just a trender?
Or is it real-I mean it has to be with some?
Redundant question anyway as matters not for me either way.

There's screening tests online. A good starting point is here: https://www.additudemag.com/ There's also this UK specific site (I listened to their podcast for a while; I generally liked them): https://www.adhdadult.uk/

At my workplace I know two others with diagnosed ADHD. Plus the wife of a co-worker.

I think it's getting more diagnosed now that people are more aware of it, though specialists for adults can still be hard to find. But you should get a proper clinical test if you think (or strongly suspect) you might have it. My GP referred me to a clinical psycholoigst who assessed me (and then when I started therapy and medication, the first sessions with the therapist and the doc who prescribes my meds were them basically re-doing the assessment). That said, finding specialists for adult ADHD can be tricky. I am lucky in that regard, but I also pay out of pocket for private doctor and therapist because the public health insurance coverage for non-physical ailments is a bit shit (only miniscule reimbursement, or long waiting lists), unfortunately, though they do cover my meds.

And yes, even with diagnosis I often felt like an imposter, because "others have it worse" or "I managed to live 40+ years with it", but then I look back and think about what life could have been like if I had gotten help earlier, because much of my life up 10, 15 years ago was a big fucking mess that I barely managed to have a grip on.

Now that we know how damaging social media and video games are to ability to focus, concentration and attention, it is not at all surprising that the symptoms of ADHD has spiked, and since we are not doing anything to address the root cause (and the number of kids who are raised by screens increases) it will become the norm.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

And autism is caused by vaccines. While the stuff you mention may contribute to symptoms becoming more pronounced, and while there's a still some discussions about the root causes of ADHD, genetics/inheriting it from parents seems to be a main cause - screens, games, etc. probably makes it more visible, and indulges the impulsive unfocused minds more.

This article provides a good overview: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3927422/

E.g. from the article, my mother's smoking during pregnancy very likely contributed; though looking back at my family, my father also showed strong traits of ADHD and/or Aspergers (there's a strong comorbidity).

How big percentage of the population must be diagnosed with it for it to no longer be a disorder?
