Q:  you mortals always think of death in such simple linear terms

Trekculture is doing ups and downs for the movies at the moment. This week was Undiscovered Country. It was the first Trek I watched in a theater ... 34 years ago. (and I had the comic, too) :weep:

Same. With some non-trek mates of mine. All had good time regardless. Still one of the best trek movies imho

If somebody tries to tell me that Shatner is a hack, I just think about that "Let them die!" scene and shake my head.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

Quote from: PRC on January 23, 2025, 11:19:58 AMStrange New Worlds is really good Trek imo, if you enjoyed TOS and TNG then you'll enjoy SNW.

Well thanks for the recommendations guy, this is first new star trek series/film I've watch in probably 40 years.

Continuing my rewatch of Lower Decks (close to end of Season 3). There was a bunch of stuff from S1 and 2 I had forgotten. :D And tbh, some of the less good episodes are not as bad as I remembered (e.g., A Mathematically Perfect Redemption, An Embarrassment of Dooplers), and I catch jokes/references and meta commentary I didn't the first time around. And a "bad" Lower Decks episode is IMHO still better than much of the rest what's out there.

But man, S2 was VERY horny  :perv:

S3 of Strange New Worlds has started. With two tonally very different episodes, but that's episodic Trek for you. :P

Didn't know that Spock-centered romcom would become one of my favorite Star Trek sub genres. :D

Still, enjoyed it a lot. :)

I liked the second episode more than the first. Both were good though. I agree with Syt that I didn't think Spock's love life would be as enjoyable as it is. I also think it's a "only nixon can go to China" situation. Don't think Nimoy could pull it off.

That said, I don't like when Star Trek revisits (previsits?) characters. It's lazy fan service. But who knows, maybe it's a petty critic and  if I was older maybe I'd have been bitching about Klingons in the next gen too :D
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

Yeah, I wasn't too fond of that (though it confirmed something that was long kinda considered canon by everyone), either (no blame on any of the performers, btw). And I appreciate them going a bit light and silly after the intense opening episode. :D

And yes, hard to imagine Nimoy doing this, though I think he did have some comedic chops.

I wish Star Wars would take heed. Between Original shows, Kelvin timeline and Discovery/SNW, we are on the third actor for many characters, and they all manage to make them their own without doing an impersonation. But I guess after Solo flopping (no fault of Alden Ehrenreich or Donald Glover who did excellent jobs IMO) they seem extremely reluctant to do it. Maybe the Bail Organa situation in Andor was a test balloon? We'll see.

However, Martin Quinn as baby Montgomery Scott is fun (esp. with Carol Kane). And finally a True Scotsman(TM) :P playing the role. :D

Mariner called out the fan theory. I think in the cross over episode actually :D

Performance was good, but for a second i got a jumanji flashback
