Walked to an off site meeting near the office today, going through Jaurèsgasse. Been a while since I've been near the German embassy (passports are handled at a separate location). The old embassy was an ugly example of "Bonner Barock", a style emblematic for many public buildings erected in the 60s-80s in West Germany.

The new one under construction is an improvement, if only slightly (and much larger):

 :hmm:

Also on Jaurèsgasse (which is like 200 meters long): Iranian Embassy, British Embassy, Russian Orthodox Church, Anglican Church, Russian Embassy ... on the way back I cut through a side alley - Chinese Embassy.

There's plenty embassies around Vienna, and many in this general area, but never realized so many "big ones" so close together. :D The Syrian embassy across the street is "only" two floors of a building, with other businesses located there. Or when I worked my first student job walking up the stairs of a residential building to the company office and, interspersed between family names on doors, "Embassy of the Republic of Kyrgizstan"

For the history nerds: there's an intersection of Jaurèsgasse and Metternichgasse, so you can meet someone on the corner of Jaurès and Metternich. :nerd:
We are born dying, but we are compelled to fancy our chances.
