This time around, our monarchy is something the RoC is using to distinguish it self from the USA. Him & I, we never need to do that.

Myself, I found it jarring at first glance but I get it.

Whether you like it or not you and her are still governed by our Parliamentary system of government, and so jarring or not, you do need it.

Grey Fox

Sure. Every part of the equation is necessary to get to the right answer. For now.

We're allowed to change it. Viper is allowed to advocate that we should do away with it.
Getting ready to make IEDs against American Occupation Forces.

"But I didn't vote for him"; they cried.

I don't disagree with any of that.  What I disagree with is making claims that would only be true if those changes have already happened.

I get how Quebec wouldn't give a shit about the monarchy,  and even in Anglo Canada most people don't really care anymore.

But I viewed the throne speech and visit as a reminder of the lineage of Canadian democracy which has plenty of traditions originating centuries ago.  See the speaker pretending not to want to accept and being dragged up - since back in the day the speaker risked execution if offending the king.

Quote from: viper37 on May 30, 2025, 06:32:04 AMWhat I mean is that there's no need for a speech on the agenda.

We have an agenda, here it is, you can see it on your tablet.  Everyone in favour vote "Yeah". Let's proceed.

Sure. You could do that. You could. Just like we could have the President show up for work the January after he was elected at his office and start doing his job with no fuss.

But what fun would that be? No, we have to have this big ceremony and party.
Yeah, on second thought, I'm happy my Prime Minister does not spend his days playing golf :P

Budget cuts.  We live in a time of austerity.  PP is showing us the way.  Canadians are in for a very hard time and everyone must make sacrifices. :(

Trump's 'big, beautiful' tax reform bill could cost Canadians billions

Did you think Trump was done with you guys? He wants to destroy you.

But not in a decisive effective evil way. Just in a flailing petty ineffective way that will none-the-less cause everybody massive amounts of pain.

Sucks to be anybody who trusts the United States.

Guess trump really wants to crush investments in US companies. I doubt Canada will be the only one affected.

On the plus side if the GOP ends up letting the Democrats run again* and they win** reversing these idiotic moves will lead to an economic boon. I mean full trust, however unlikely, will take a generation or more.

* only partially joking
** still shockingly low probability.
