Name sounds vaguely familiar, but GF says the name didn't change up here? Guess I'll have to check when I go shopping. Didn't use the syrup much (too much real maple syrup up here :D ), but the pancake batter was good. Not a breakfast guy so even then didn't partake too often.

Quote from: Valmy on May 02, 2025, 10:21:25 AMI always thought that branding was very weird anyway. Syrup is a very yankee product.

The pancake mix was the initial product.  That may have fit more into the "Mammy" stereotype at the time (the brand started in the 19th century.)  The 1934 movie "Imitation of Life" is based on the Aunt Jemima legend (I mean if Aunt Jemima had been a real person and had her own pancake mix recipe, that would have been her story), so at least by that point it was a commonly accepted stereotype.  (Not to dog the original "Imitation of Life", it's a really progressive film for the period in which it was made.)
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

I use real maple syrup... and the fake stuff.   I grew up with the fake stuff for pancakes and waffles and what not and use the real stuff for cooking and on non-breakfast food things. Plenty of maple here, too. Which is awesome.

Right you're in the northeast, correct? You know the joys of true maple :D

Yup! Dead center of New York State.

I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Yeah, that's what I thought.  Wasn't sure though.

To be fair we don't know if those 70 people he's smarter then were vaccinated :contract:

That syrup sucked btw. To be fair I don't think there's a food that any syrup would enhance.

(I don't like syrup)

It's sad when immigrants refuse to assimilate.   :(

 ;)

(I agree that Aunt Jemima wasn't very good syrup.)

It is corn syrup with a tiny bit of maple flavoring.  Goopy and gloopy without adding anything.
