Have you tried strange new worlds? I've enjoyed that. A bit light heartened the Lower Decks way, without going full blown cartoony.

I tried discovery, but it's so very bad.

Yeah. I don't care much for Section 31, so my expectations will already be low, anyways :P

I kind of tolerated it in DS9 because of the war theme and the actor who played Sloan was good. Didn't care for it in enterprise, and didn't watch enough discovery.

But I do know it wasn't much liked in the community. Which begs the question, who asked for this show

I haven't.  I'm sort of skittish about current Star Trek right now.  I've cocooned myself up with the golden oldies lately.  Maybe I'll get there at some point.  I just want to talented people being professionals and facing sci-fi conundrums.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

I do an annual (maybe more  ) viewing of DS9 so I get you. That being said I do like ST:SNW. It's a correction from the brooding Discovery. And while it's not perfect, at least one writer must of been a musical theater student :D , I do think it's a good show. Kind of like TNG in theme and scope, but with DS9 interpersonal relationships.

Strange New Worlds is really good Trek imo, if you enjoyed TOS and TNG then you'll enjoy SNW.

SNW is much closer to the oldies. I think you will enjoy it.  :)

I dunno - SNW is kind of like a remake - it's trying very hard to be like classic Star Trek.

I kind of enjoyed the first season or two of Discovery because it was trying to be a "modern" Star Trek.  It quickly came clear they had no particular story they were trying to tell however.  Same thing was true for Picard - where are you guys going with this, what story are you trying to tell?

I enjoyed Lower Decks for being what it is - a Star Trek animated comedy with lots of call-backs to TNG.  But the "comedy" and "animated" kind of lower expectations too.

It is set in a time prior to TOS.  Its not trying to be TOS.

Section 31. Not as bad as I thought and a fairly breezy 90 or so minutes of cartoony action that sagged a bit in the middle.

Very cheesy "team of quirky misfits tasked to save the galaxy" kind of mindless action with quippy dialogue. You know the kind of movie.

I'm a sucker for teams of quirky misfits, though, so that kinda hooked me in. Yes, it's been a prevalent trope in movies for a bit now (esp. superhero movies - Guardians of the Galaxy, Suicide Squad, etc., but also SW: The Bad Batch and going back much further as a concept, of course). Either way, at the very least I liked the characters.

The opening made me roll my eyes, though. As did the video game briefing after the intro. And the cliché dialogue. And plot "twists". Action was mostly decent, though, with a few fun things sprinkled in.

Great Trek? I don't think so. Great movie? Eh. Guilty pleasure? I guess so. I can see myself re-watching it when looking for an action flick to numb the brain. Definitely important not to overthink the whole thing, though. :P

Next up: checking Sean Ferrick's Ups & Downs. I'm curious what he thinks of ... a certain character.

That didn't take long, and exactly what I expected. I heard that character talk and was  "Oh no!!"
