I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Yeah, it's a Roman copy of a Greek sculpture of a Gaul vs a Gaulish sculpture.  It's just egregious how wrong this is.

Of course. The sculpture on the right is indeed of Boii origin. A Celtic tribe which gave its name to Bohemia, part of Germania Magna in the Roman sense, as in not limited to Germanic peoples (cf. Venedi i.e proto-Slavs), and Bavaria (not part of Germania Magna back then).

I don't see the point being made.  Is it that the state uses more resources to protect Mangione from assassination than it does the average school shooter?  Is it something about the PR angle?  Something else?

The point, as I see it, is that Mangione's perp walk is a better PR opportunity than that of an ordinary mass murderer, hence more people getting in on the opportunity. All those cops and militarized cops aren't there to protect Mangione from assassination.  If the NYPD actually feared an assassination, they wouldn't be walking, they'd be driving.

At what point do PR attempts like these cross over to jury tampering? I mean this spectacle doesn't exactly scream innocent until proven guilty.

The way I understood it, is the meme creators thought Mangione was a more dangerous criminal, in need of more police protection than your average school shooter because of his target choice.  i.e. kill a CEO=a very dangerous man where as kill children you are a very low threat.

The reality of course is that, with the popular support and attention Mangione received, the police likely feared and interference of some kind, even maybe an escape attempt by some "fans" where as with the school shooter no one would help him escape custody and his relative anonimity outside of the locality where the crime was committed makes an assassination attempt or otherwise less likely.  School shootings happen so often in the US that suspects pictures aren't widely circulated for days in all kinds of national medias and they are often quickly arrested (or killed).

I think more likely NYPD loves the photo opp of a perp walk.
