How very continental of them. You guys belong in the EU after all.

Who said our farmers are revolting.

Well whether or not they are revolting is beside the point.

But the BBC said thousands of farmers have marched on Parliament demanding they...um...something about an inheritance tax.

I suggest Starmer ride forth in front of the army and tell them: "villeins you were and villeins you are still. You will remain in inheritance tax bondage, not as before, but incomparably harsher."

 This country :bleeding:

On a similar thing I saw a Labour MP and minister posting his letter to the local council opposing allowing a McDonald's to open on the high street because childhood obesity. I just think MPs and ministers should have better things to do than worry about the precise retail mix on the high street of one town in their constituency.

McDonalds, for mysterious reasons I cannot really understand, now costs a fortune. Like you can go to a sit down restaurant with a server and everything and get a much higher quality burger for a comparable price.

So that MP shouldn't worry about childhood obesity from McDonalds. Most families with small children cannot afford it anymore.

But that just might be only in the US. Though my experience tells me that prices are rarely lower in Europe.

They are cheaper than, say, Five Guys, but it's still overpriced crap.

Sheilbh

Yeah I'd also say if he's worried about childhood obesity he should crack down on the chicken shops because the kids fucking love those (at lunchtime and after school - and, for some little fat bastards, even before school ). They are also far, far cheaper than McDonalds - in a way that I genuinely don't understand how they're so cheap and don't want to inquire too deeply.

May be somewhat similar to certain nail bars and barbers?

Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".

I think that's a London thing.
We have KFC, one or two smaller chains, and the very occasional independent... But they're not a big deal at all.
Mcdonalds is definitely the cheap and shit place locals swarm.

McDonald's being expensive... Depends what you get.
I know McDs made a purposeful business decision some years ago to try and go in a more premium direction with fancy menu items. I do believe this was especially in the US.
The saver menu and big mac and all that still exist though.
I actually ordered McDonald's one lunch time last week, a gross error in hindsight, ended up with so much shit for my money to make up the minimum delivery cost.

Yeah, they did a PR blitz a month or so back advertising their deals menu. Mix inflation and raised minimum wage and prices go up.

The Big Mac, and their other burgers, are no longer cheap compared to burgers you get elsewhere.

Sure. But as I said McDonald's is no longer cheap compared to other options. I presume everybody is impacted by wages and inflation. Their prices have gone up a great deal more than just inflation.

Sure, always some corporate greed there, but McD's always seem to have more employees then the other "cheap" places, so they're effected more.

I don't know anywhere that does cheaper basic and cheese burgers.
Can't think of anything remotely  comparable to the big mac that his cheaper either. Even a kebab shop quarter pounder is more. Burger king and other chains definitely so.
