No but... they turn off the laser guiding and launch the killshot manually. - I know imitation is the biggest form of flattery, but come on
Would have been cool if Goose's Force ghost whispered to him.

Stranger Things is making me think of WH40k.  This is what happens when you allow psykers free reign to tap into the Warp.

Quote from: celedhring on June 01, 2022, 05:19:16 PMThe mission is essentially the Star Wars trench run with F-18s. It's very silly.

It had me thinking how the yanks would go about it in the real world... I suppose a massive SEAD barrage and then move in to bomb?

Eh, the trench run is also just a rip off of the climax of 633 Squadron where they fly an attack down a Norwegian fjord while dodging flak and Messerschmitts. :P (A really amazing scene, if you can look past the 60s epecial effects)

I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Been watching Farscape again.  With the exception of a few notable episodes,it really is a great show.

It is my all time favourite sci fi show.  It is a shame it really never caught on.  Do remember the homage they did to it in Stargate?

It really is. :) I really liked the character evolutions, and how they kept adding more and more emotional baggage that actually matters. And it added did some really fun spins to some otherwise tired sci-fi tropes. And of course it sometimes went completely batshit bonkers.

When I watched Guardians of the Galaxy at theaters, I came out and said to the friend I had watched it with, "This was a pretty awesome Farscape movie." He didn't get it, but I later read an interview with James Gunn and apparently the show was a big inspiration (which is a reason why they added Ben Browder to vol. 2), so I felt quite vindicated. :D Heck, even the characters map quite easily: Starlord = Crichton, Gamora = Aeryn Sun, Drax = Ka D'Argo, Rocket = Rigel, ... :P

You forgot the easiest comparison, groot is zhaan :D

Been tempted to read the comics but haven't gotten to that point yet.

In that they're plants, yes. :D Though Zhaan was a lot more eloquent (not to mention she had a dark streak). And I guess you could argue Chiana = Nebula, to some degree, and Ronan = Crais (without the redeeming features).

Groot has a dark streak too, smiling after bashing people to death and baby groots glee at chasing down victims :D

Although my favourite character is stark. My side, your side.

Speaking of Farscape - Season 3 of Final Space finally came to Netflix. Unfortunately it ended on a cliffhanger and has been canceled. It's from one of the producers on Gravity Falls, so @Malthus might like it. :P

The show is difficult to recommend, but I very much enjoyed it. It's tone is all over the place, somewhere between Red Dwarf, Rick & Morty's levels of violence, and high melodrama (think telenovela style plot twists and reveals, often via flashbacks :P ), plus Lovecraftian cosmic horror and one of the most adorable destroyers of worlds seen on screen. It's certainly less hard sci-fi and much more space fantasy and closer to Marvel's space stuff.

It has a bunch of well known voices as recurring characters, like David Tennant, Ashley Burch, Conan O'Brien, Keith David, Gina Torres (Zoe from Firefly), John DiMaggio (Bender on Futurama), Alan Tudyk and as main character from Season 2: Claudia Black. Who has a strong Australian accent on the show (which makes sense, since she's an Aussie), but it sounds really weird when you remember her mostly from Farscape or Dragon Age. :D

I thought the first season was quite excellent. Apparently the network demanded "more comedy" in season 2, which was scaled back slightly in S3. I'd rate S1 an A, and season 2 and 3 B- and B rexpectively.

Again, not easy to recommend, I think it's very much a love it or hate it show.

Stark was really ... grating at times (though I guess that was the point). I never quite warmed to Jool. And of course there's Noranti who joins in season 4 and literally comes out of nowhere - with characters even calling it out during the opening action scene where she first shows up, and asking in between who she is and where she comes from or how long she's been on board, but then just roll with it. At that point in the show you're just like, "Yeah, sure, I guess this is a thing now."

stark could be grating, I agree, but he was a broken man multiple times so I could forgive it.  I just liked the comedic moments he added.

I'm indifferent to jool. Noranti had her moments. My favourite late addition female character was sikozu. Actually probably one of my favourite character over all. The character I never warmed up to was chiana. She annoyed me.

I admit I had forgotten about Sikozu. -_- I really liked Chiana but I always kinda liked half-crazy and hedonistic female rogue types
