Mad that I've lived near a bit cricket ground for almost 10 years and never gone to a game.

Did anyone win by the end of the day?  :P

Yeah, you have missed the dozen or so games that will have been completed during those years.  :P

It was Twenty Twenty so only in the evening (a little delayed by rain) - but yeah Surrey won. It started at about 7.30/45 (was meant to start at 6.30) and finished by about 10.

Although apparently they're like the Man City of cricket so probably expected

Yes  Basically you sit watching a bit of live sport for a few hours - I get that there's loads of nuance I have no idea about but fundamentally it's a stick and ball game so it's broadly pretty easy to follow.

The ticket was pretty cheap (£20) and you have loads of places in the venue selling food and drinks (which was expensive). So it was a bit like sitting outside a pub with friends for a few hours in the evening, but there's some live sport to watch.

It's just quite a nice way to spend an evening - or if it was a sunny summer day and there's a longer game, an afternoon. Obviously if you really know the sport there's lots more to get out of it. But it's just an enjoyably relaxed/casual sport to go and watch - in part because it lasts a few hours.

Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

It'll be high tea with the royals next.

Castle boy who goes sailing is becoming posh? :yeahright:

I drank because I wanted to drown my sorrows, but now the damned things have learned to swim.

Sheilbh

 Actually it made me think I could get into watching a baseball game too. I get there's a stick and ball similarity but also it's the US sport that gives off vibes of sitting around for an afternoon drinking and eating while sports happens near you :P

Baseball I will never get. The extra rules on top of rounders are weird.

The standard PE game in British schools  I think it's basically baseball with a smaller bat that you swing one handed and you throw the ball underarm.

Also often played on camping holidays and that sort of thing, because you need basically no equipment beyond a ball and a bat.

It's great - I think probably everyone in the country played it growing up.

Alright.

I won't try to explain Baseball to Squeeze then.

My son went 1/3 last night & did an amazing defensive play when he was playing 2nd base.
