I was looking for a particular war photographer, and came across this blog:
http://dogatemytank.tumblr.com/ (http://dogatemytank.tumblr.com/)
It seems to be dominated by American photographs from Vietnam and to a lesser extent Korea and WW2.
Some interesting photos, though slightly annoying as I can't seem to see the tags or if there are any attributes or mention of the context and origins of the war photo-journalism, but none the less some startling images.
For some reason it's called dog ate my tank, and is run by a young Polish woman whose into wargaming and ancient history.
I rather 'like' this one:
(https://languish.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F25.media.tumblr.com%2Ftumblr_lz1k6rar951r0che3o1_1280.jpg&hash=f0507fd244a2c4506c9a9613049ef58a138779d8)
I guess it might be from the Anglo-French intervention in Norway 1940 or perhaps Italy 43 or NW Europe in the winter of 1944-5
Anyone else got a 'favourite' war photograph, please post it.
edit:
there are more modern images, like this one, which I presume is from Afghanistan.

This must be from the very early days, before the Hueys arrived, I'm guessing it's a H21, shot down or maybe crash landed and perhaps the soldier/airman is sprinting because it might catch fire or maybe he's rigged it to explode:

Image metafile says " Vietnamese soldiers of the 21st Recon Company rush to board waiting Huey choppers in the rice paddies near their forward command post in South Vietnam on Nov. 14, 1969. The men are to be transported into the interior of the U-Minh forest, the large marshy and swamp and forest area at the southern tip of Vietnam, long considered to be a VC strong-hold. For the previous month, an all Vietnamese operation called "Operation u-minh" had been attempting to drive the VC and NVA regulars from the area. It was the second such operation within the year. Well I meant to say, that the tv coverage we'd have seen of Vietnam would have been in black and white, iirc we only saw colour film of the war from about 72 onward, maybe even later after the US had withdrawn, where as Americans would have seen color tv coverage from quite a bit earlier, might have Tet have been broadcast in color ?
I can certainly remember later seeing color footage from the fighting in Hue, would that have been on the nightly news in color ?
edit:
this one is much more wash out, perhaps a from video , a screen grab or from a film report broadcast at a later date ?

I'm not against it's use, pretty much all weapons should be used as war isn't a nice thing, so to pretend otherwise is silly and manipulative.
Just as not showing war dead, enemy, civilian or your own side is an active form of propaganda, hey look war is clean.
Also why I'm in favour of drafting MPs, senator and congresmen's children. :D

Well it could even have been taken at the same time that Dr.Strangelove was being filmed.
Notice the 60s linoleum floor tiles and the very rudimentary presentation of the fare for the VIPs, just small folding tables covered with a cloth, are those yellow disks ashtrays ?
It was 1962, Mongers. It's what 1962 looked like: very 60s. What with it, you know, being all 1962 and shit.
Yeah, but the young'uns here don't appreciate that there was a time before electronic gadgets, when people used to just carry around a wallet, change, smokes, a lighter and golf tees in their pockets.
Yeah, good times. And some of us are old enough to remember some of that the 60s decor stuff still lying around the house when we were little. Or, in grumbler's case, the 1860's.
Shit, my aunt still has all her 60's furniture. The paint colors & the LCD TVs are the give dead away, it's a time long passed.

Yes, on the money with that.
I recognised the 2nd photo as it's fairly famous; details here at this wiki page which bizarrely calls the events the Dachau massacre, almost as if not much had taken place along those lines until then:

The Americans seemed to have acted with restraint; in the case of the 'spies' the three photographed at execution had had a trial along with another 10-12 executed elsewhere.
Indeed Skorenzy, was put on trial for planning and commanding the commandos and he was found not guilty, not least because a British SOE agent testified in his defence that he'd similarly warn enemy uniforms.
Indeed the US even conducted an investigation into the killing of SS camp guards and other Germans at the concentration camp, going so far as to consider court martials, before clearer heads prevailed ( Patton's).
