Note: I don't care if "real hipsters" don't listen to this stuff, that was a joke line.
Still :yucky:
Did Slayer release any new albums last year?
I recognize none of those songs. Heck, I recognize less than half the artists on the list.
Apparently Midnight City is the song in the Victoria's Secret ads.
Never heard of any of these songs.
Total of two.

ah, what is the world coming to when the only reason I have heard your song is that it is playing in the background of your sex tape
Exactly half. I imagine I'd recognise a few more though.
I recognize none of that at all, although I have at least heard the names of seven of the performers.
I listen to music a lot, and its a fun mix of stuff, but certainly none of that.
They Might Be Giants is still cool and hip, right? Cause I totally like them.
I know half the artists, but I am only sure about the two Adele songs. I have probably heard some of the other songs, but don't know their names.
Around half though some I know the artist but am unsure about the song.
That Niki Manaj woman is weird. I'd seen her in the paper in the UK and heard her name but never actually heard her. Here in Japan her videos are on all the freaking time though. Wonder if its UK being immune or her suddenly breaking through this year. She sucks anyway (though I certainly would).
You certainly would what?
Four. [granny voice] I'm forty four you know [/granny voice]
What does it all mean when a Frenchmen and a granny are the hippest people on Languish :o
I only know one of those songs, and only because someone emailed it to me a couple weeks ago.

It wasn't disparaging, but someone in mid 20's living in the City, i'd be shocked if they didn't know those songs. and the artists. I mean i know 16 of the artists, but I just don't listen to enough R&B, Hip hop to follow them.

Oh wow, I didn't know Britney Spears wasn't a known name. Chris Brown is a talentless hack and known most recently for beating up Rihanna. Adele has been dominating the airwaves since the Grammy's this year. I know mongers must know of her as she has to be playing non-stop in her native England.

No. In my experience of our London hipsters Beyonce's big, Gaga used to be big and they're too cool to like Radiohead.
That's the problem with hipsters, they're fickle. No loyalty to build a career on. Gay fans, on the other hand, will buy whatever shit you produce - look at Cher.
I don't think I've ever heard a hipster argue against OK Computer. "I like their earlier work" doesn't fit exactly because Pablo Honey sucks, but it's more or less true here.

That's basically the hipster-Radiohead relationship. They even get annoyed at Thom Yorke popping up on Flying Lotus albums.
Yeah. OK Computer is pretty foundational, though. Up there with In The Aeroplane Over the Sea and Is This It.

Gay hipsters are like trainee bears. They've got the facial hair, the love of checked shirts and flannel trousers. It's kind of disconcerting.
My experience of a gay hipstery bar is that the love of occasional kitsch outweighs the need to be cool
It's probably most accurate to say they exist on a spectrum-one of my best friends is a hipster scum-twink who isn't really in to bears and actually hates a lot of traditional gay culture more than I do.

Same with Fun. Guilty pleasure for them, and they're just starting to get annoyed about people "encroaching" on their turf when middle-aged husbands are buying two copies of Making Mirrors so they've got one for their wife and one for themselves.
And more stereotype-busting? The metalheads and left-over punk-rockers are WAY worse about the music snobbery. The store manager and I get such a kick out of schooling those guys, like the pseudo-skinhead punker who doesn't understand why we don't carry Screwdriver.

You're thinking of that horrible "We Are Young" thing, which is one of the most pandering pieces of shit I've ever heard (I will concede it's catchy); to the extent that I think I've already heard it on a Goddamned car commercial. "Pumped Up Kicks" is Foster the People, and, like that whole album, rather good (and "Houdini" is the
shit). "Pumped Up Kicks" is not, however, nearly as good a school shooting song as "I Don't Like Mondays," the Bob Geldoff/Bon Jovi version of which, of course, remains the gold standard by which all kids-gettin'-capped songs must be judged.
Oh, and Gotye and HOTTEST WHITE WOMAN ALIVE Kimbra's "Somebody I Used to Know" is pretty awesome.

You're thinking of that horrible "We Are Young" thing, which is one of the most pandering pieces of shit I've ever heard (I will concede it's catchy); to the extent that I think I've already heard it on a Goddamned car commercial. "Pumped Up Kicks" is Foster the People, and, like that whole album, rather good (and "Houdini" is the shit).
I already conceded that one a little ways back, but yeah, notice I got the Gotye right and the other two wrong. :P
Incidently, "We are young" made me think of this mediocre song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUE4oDunYkc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUE4oDunYkc) which still manages to be better than the current hit.
Kimbra is the hottest woman alive? Thank God I'm gay!
Nah, her head's too boxy.

It is Ide...
Well, ok, I was basing it almost entirely on the "Somebody I Used to Know" video, and I got a little excited. Just look at that hair.
And I said "white," which narrows the competition, considerably.

I wished to discuss "Pumped Up Kicks" in comparison to my favorite Boomtown Rats song, and also Foster the People more generally, and used your post as a springboard. :)

I don't think Gotye's song can really even count as hipster anymore. 220mil youtube views?
Yeah once your song appears on Glee it is all over.
And gets horrifyingly covered on the Voice in the UK.
But yeah I agree with MP hipsterism's very mainstream now it's far too easy to mock.
I'm just against hipster guys.
I will say, "Somebody I Used to Know" should've come out a year ago. -_-
