QuoteTBILISI (Reuters) – Georgia said on Tuesday a Russian-planned coup plot had been uncovered within the military of the former Soviet republic and a rebellion was under way at a military base near the capital.

Underway? NYT says something along the lines of "foiled".
Anyway, though I think Georgia has something to gain from making it look like Russia was behind this, and I think elements of the Georgian Army would probably be maad aat Saakashvili aanywaay, I think it is probably pretty safe to presume that Russia was involved at some level.
Something we learned last August. Georgians are liars. Who knows what the hell is going on. There may be no military rebellion at all.
Right now the Georgrian government is not too popular, so this may be a venting of honest domestic fury rather than a move purely fashioned by the Russians.
I'm sad to see that Ark lending credence to Spellus' Russophile ways.
If there was any US President other than the Obamateur, Georgia would be reinforced.
I'm no Russophile, but neither do I want to be hoodwinked by a bunch of almost-Russians.

Why would Canada do that? There aren't enough imbeciles without prospects in Canada to make good soldiers, and so our military capability is limited.

Why would Neil want to join the military? After all, despite his numerous failings, he seems to have at least an average intellect, at least a middle class background and does not seem to be deranged in a way that prevents relatively normal functioning in the society.

True enough.
I am dissapointed however, that minority people seem to be, if anything, even more bigoted. One would hope that they would be less, having lived through teh consequences of others intolerance.

Yeah really.
But I was just wondering if you ever had the urge to serve your country....risk your life, maybe. You don't risk your life in all jobs of the military. More dangerous to drive every day than be, say, a cook, water purifier, or UAV operator.
I just know, personally, I would have always regretted not doing what I've had the option of experiencing... as much as it did suck, was still worth it. As many of the males here express that they regret not serving, or having some of the experiences.

Why do you assume that working as a soldier is the only way to serve your country.
I'd say doctors, teachers, judges or civil servants serve their country in a much more profound and useful way that an bunch of immature old boys with guns, running through some desert half the world away.

No, no desire whatsoever. That might be because I don't feel any real sense of connection to the majority of America. I feel ties to my family and perhaps people similar to those in which I've lived (which gets you California and liberal cities), but I don't think anything beyond that.
