I never used to carry much cash, mostly because Oslo wasn't all that safe all the time, and because I never had much money anyway. Nowadays, I tend to make a cash withdrawal each week for running expenses like groceries and pay my bills electronically. Is using cash weird? I tend to lose overview when I pay with my debit card.
I haven't included cheques, because it simply isn't used here anymore.
I carry a dollar or 3 in spare change. If I have cash on me, its because someone gave it to me.
I pay everything with a credit card, except my hairdresser. I pay her in cash.
I get a week's worth out at a time so I don't overspend. I am teh poor.
I want to punch the students round where I work who use a card to buy a single sandwich or a pint.
Not having cash is not necessarily a good thing if you're robbed. I didn't have any cash at all when I was mugged, which meant that I was taken to an ATM machine to get some. That's a far more dangerous situation, not to mention more expensive.
I typically carry the cash for petty purchases, like a pack of gum, or for vending machines. I also sometimes use cash so that I could get quarters in change, since the coffee machine at works requires quarters to operate.

It's the way of the future. If you're not on board, then you might as well then you better hold down your flapper dress so that noone sees your petticoats when you're dancing the Charleston, and whatnot.
Mind you, I always carry a fair bit of cash on me. It accumulates over the course of the month, and then I deposit it in the bank.
I only have cash here when going out as there seem to be several bars that only take cash...oh and when traveling to pay tolls as I'm too lame to get an EZPASS. :weep: Otherwise, never.
I guess that means that none of those options apply. And I'd never be caught with change (coins). :x

Isn't it extremely impractical to not have EZ pass? I often see very long traffic backups to the manned booths, and zero traffic to the EZ pass booths, in places like Holland Tunnel on the Jersey side (which generates very dangerous traffic patterns, among other things).
I carry some cash.
I carry an Undset most of the time, since I frequently run into situations where only cash will do.
The vietnameese, for instance, never accept cards for some reason. <_<
I like cash. I carry cash.

Oh, that was you? Sorry.
i carry and pay in cash for day to day stuff. credit or debit Card for larger purchses, and internet banking for bills.
The only time I ever have cash on me is when I've been somewhere that doesn't take cards and needed to withdraw some. If there's an unused amount, it then just sits in my wallet, forgotten, until I happen to be somewhere that requires it again.
It's not because of the Mexicans or anything though.
I always carry some cash, usually between say 20 and 100 Euro. I often pay in cash for groceries and usually in bars and restaurants too. However, I reguarly spend all my cash and then I pay most stuff with the debit card.

I generally head up to Boston and don't typically have issues with the Triboro(RFK!) or Whitestone bridges. Would have been nice when I drove down to Wildwood though. Also would be beneficial just for ease on the Mass turnpike. That's why I'm lame. :(
I get payed in cash. Only thing I don't pay in cash are the rent and utility bills.

How's the protection business these days? :hmm:
I always carry some cash. For buying gasoline, or smaller stuff like coffee, lunch, or small shopping amounts. I pay by credit or debit card most of my bigger shopping purchase amounts.
Of course.
I pay with cash wherever I can. Hated it in Holland and Sweden the way I had to go via a bank for my bills.
I withdraw cash from the bank periodically, but only for the occasional taxi or bar tab. Everything else is paid by debit or credit card.
Paying in cash just means I end up with more fucking pennies in my pocket.
I rarely use cash. Just the debit card now.
I usually carry a couple of hundred pounds, when it falls below a hundred I take another two hundred out. I prefer paying for things in cash unless they are quite expensive, it makes the bank statement simpler apart from anything else.
I don't carry any appreciable amount of cash. I think I have $11 in my wallet right now, for instance. I pay with everything via credit/debit and if I actually need cash I just hit an ATM (no usage fees with my credit union).
One of my concerns about debit card use, apart from my utter lack of overview, is that I a) may lose my card in some way or b) that some place has sloppy CCTV and has allowed some punk to mount skimming devices.
I usually take out a couple of hundred bucks and replenish it once it gets low. I get rid of change as fast as I can though, I hate having a pocket full of coins.
... Norgy, are you planning a world tour funded by mugging languishites?
I keep $100 or so in my wallet for emergencies. I hate carrying coins. Debit cards all the way.

I usually carry roughly $60-80 in cash for small expenses, or places where cash is easier.
Otherwise, all my credit cards give rebates, so I use them 95% of the time (and -always- pay them off in full every month). No reason not to make some small bonus off the cards.
Never use debit card...checks only for the few things that requires checks (like paying rent).
Coins/change usually get dumped into a plastic container I have assigned for that purpose. Comes in handy for the rare times I encounter a parking meter (that is not a modern CC-taking machine), or now, accumulating quarters for my apartment's laundry. Someday I might have to hit a Coinstar machine though.

Actually, I have this friend from Eastern Europe...
The reason I came up with the poll, was that a neighbour dropped by yesterday evening and asked for a thousand NOK in cash for the bills we've been racking up redecorating. Unsurprisingly, I had more than enough cash at hand, since I routinely withdraw a certain amount each week, stash most of it in a drawer and carry about a 1000 (a bit more than 100 pounds/Euros and a bit less than 200 dollars) on me. A few years back, I'd never had that kind of cash on me, and I was wondering if it was due to oldmaningitis on my part.

Now that I think about it, I do carry cash when I go play poker. It's about $500 if it's a home game, and several times that amount if it's in Atlantic City. I've had many more good days than bad days in the last year or two playing poker, so I slowly had cash piling up in my desk drawer. Now that I'm moving out and cleaning out, it turns out that I managed to pile up about $11,000 in cash. I think it's time to deposit some of it.
I carry cash for small purchases or lunch (restaurants usually prefer cash), but most of my shopping is by card.
Usually carry $30-50 on me. If on location and payed per diem have that amount on me.

Generally not. Its not like an oyster card, scan and go, there's the computer working and checking the card, the entering the validation (whether it be a pin or signature), the checking that, etc....
Money tend to come out a lot quicker.
Maybe in the UK. In a standard store in the USA, I swipe my card, the cashier hits a button and the transaction is over in seconds.

This.
I usually just carry small change, I use my debit card/Visa card for just about all transactions I make. It's fast and doesn't cost me anything extra due to the Dankort system we use here in Denmark...
Basically the only reason I got small change is to pay for coffee and a occasional can of soda at my job...
In the U.S., I never use cash, but things are pretty backwards in China. Almost everything reasonably priced is cash only, so I keep a wad in my wallet, and enough cash for a month's expenses at home.
The lack of security in the US system is why every time I've been there my card's been blocked as the card company finds the activity suspicious <_<
I'd rather carry cash for quick transactions and go through the chip and PIN rigmarole for card payments than have my identity stolen. Again.
BTW, why is this poll important?
He's determining who to rob, obviously.

I do not carry cash as a rule. Sometimes (e.g. when going out to a club or some such) I take out some cash and do not take my cards with me (if I get pickpocketed, it would be a bigger problem for me to lose my cards and have to get new ones than to lose a little bit of cash) but in general cash is too much of a hassle (plus you do not have a good control over what you spend it on).
I generally carry cash and I use it to pay for small purchases.
Speaking of security, in Poland we have pretty much totally migrated to PIN code/chip cards these days - you get weird looks when you try to pay with a "signature" card (like my AmEx, which for some reason my firm decided to pick as their corporate card company, considering it is the only one of the three that does not have a chip these days).

$20 - $100, which I use for stuff like buying coffees, fast food, and other small items. I'm a boyscout, so it makes me nervous not to have any cash on me.

My wife waitresses, so we tend to pay for a lot of little things in cash. In general, though, I don't really "walk around" with more than a couple of bucks on me -- it's more like I'll fish $5 or $6 out of The Kitty on my way out the door in the morning to immediately buy smokes or something on the way to work. Anything more expensive then that & I'll just use the debit card...
